Black Dog Posted October 23, 2014 Author Report Posted October 23, 2014 In other news, DoFo is still a classy guy. Doug Ford called a Toronto Star reporter a “little bitch” as he left a mayoral debate on Wednesday night.Ford made the remark after expressing irritation with city hall reporter Jennifer Pagliaro during a post-debate media scrum. Ford repeated Pagliaro’s name and media affiliation several times during the scrum, using his preferred recent tactic for evading questions he does not like. As he walked out of the CTV debate studio with his wife and daughter, he said, “I can’t stand that little bitch.” The comment was heard by Star photojournalist Lucas Oleniuk and a CTV producer. Quote
Black Dog Posted October 23, 2014 Author Report Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) We have another data point for the "polls are bullshit" file. In Winnipeg, mayoral candidate Judy Wasylycia-Leis had a commanding 18% lead as recently as two weeks ago. This week, she finished second in the actual election, 16 points behind John Bowman. cybercoma Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) Polls are not bullshit. They predict results better than random chance. The problem is that her lead was two weeks ago. A snapshot from two weeks ago does not necessarily indicate where people stand on election day. Look at Premier Brian Gallant in NB. Weeks before the election was way ahead. Then the guy shot himself in the foot a few days before by not even knowing his tax plans. Still got elected, but it was a faaar closer election than the polls the week before the election described. Black Dog Posted October 23, 2014 Author Report Posted October 23, 2014 Polls are not bullshit. They predict results better than random chance. So what? The problem is that her lead was two weeks ago. A snapshot from two weeks ago does not necessarily indicate where people stand on election day. That's obvious. Look at Premier Brian Gallant in NB. Weeks before the election was way ahead. Then the guy shot himself in the foot a few days before by not even knowing his tax plans. Still got elected, but it was a faaar closer election than the polls the week before the election described. I'm not seeing your point here. My point is that people who are saying Chow is dead in the water based on past polls should keep in mind examples where the polls have got things wrong. There are plenty from which to choose. Quote

guyser Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) Oh...you really meant for me to answer? Chow I find has no skill negotiating anything.Shrill, far too lefty for me, too committed to causes that cost to much, lack of business acumen. I think while not Rofo or DoFo, will be polarizing. Tory has pedigree, and that and $2 gets you a coffee. But he does know what it takes to run large corporations, find him conciliatory and willing to bring together the council to get this city going. Not a huge fan of his transit scheme . And he is married to my old neighbour. <------ Yup. I thinkTory will get the ear of Ottawa, hopefully to find more funding and /or support for this city. It appeared that RoFo had some in Ottawa listening but that all went out the window in a puff of crack smoke. Ok...time to rip me a new one. Ill go make some popcorn. This is about style, not substance. Chow has a platform with costs attached and is telling us where the money will come from. John Tory, when asked about Smart Track and if he has a Plan B for if the money doesn't materialize, just says "I'm confident it'll work." Tory has pedigree, and that and $2 gets you a coffee. And he did a bang up job as PC leader.... As for bringing together council, in this campaign he's shown himself quite willing to exploit urban suburban divides for votes. Again though, this is all style. He doesn't have a platform beyond a transit plan which is built on the back of that's already in motion (like GO corridor electrification) and which, between Smart Track and his support for the Scarberia White Elephant, could have been drafted by the Ontario Liberals as a way to save them billions by shifting transit costs onto the city. I thinkTory will get the ear of Ottawa, hopefully to find more funding and /or support for this city. You hope, just like Tory "hopes" that Toronto develops enough to make his multi-billion dollar transit scheme come to fruition. Haven't we had enough faith-based policy making in the last four years? Of course when it comes to working with the feds, I know of a candidate who has actual experience at the federal government level... ETA....you convinced me quite a while ago to look at Socknacki.....You were right, he prob is/was the best He was, but I think Chow has stepped up in the same vein since he dropped out. She's the only one having a real conversation about the fact that stuff costs money. Tory, perhaps becaus ehe's never had to worry about such things in his life, just glosses over that not so small question on every issue. Quote

guyser Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 five and a half more hours and the Rofo Dofo saga will end. R Ford will take his seat in the nether regions of council, can make all the calls about specks on the driveway to be s cleaned up all he wants . DoFO can bugger off back to Chicago. Get out and vote, I have. Quote
