Ash74 Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 You're off topic, ash, again. The BC government is trying to squeeze the life out of public education while giving more to private schools. The assault on public education by neo-liberals is not new, but it is definitely growing across North America. An assault on public education is essentially an assault on democracy. Can you even begin to realize that? Sorry still have the scars of debating with a teacher when they were in strike vote mode. Got my butt chewed because I did not think it was right to bring in a labor debate into a drama class room. I just don't see how public education promotes democracy. They can tech the concept but is it not an issue of teachers bringing in their politics into a classroom? “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains.”― Winston S. Churchill There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him. –Robert Heinlein

I have no problem expressing my views. I talk to many teachers who, last year, taught their learners what would happen to Ontario if Hudak won. Educators look to support the collective community. Thankful to have become a free thinker.

Based on the opinion of that particular teacher. That is a using a position of authority to push their agenda so that they ( the teachers) can benefit. That is not democracy. That is brain washing. You just defended twisting the thoughts of young students to work their agenda. Wow I am surprised you admitted it. Big step today. eyeball Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 No reason to be angry. He's not a teacher, he's a forum caricature. All the same you gotta wonder what it is about social justice that would make someone angry. It's like being pissed off at rainbows or something. A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

It's like being pissed off at rainbows or something. I often wonder what would make someone angry about commercial fishermen and then I look at the horror stories of our over fished waters, the destroying of eco systems, and I remember that how evil commercial fishing is and how damaging it is to everything we hold dear. We also need to reign in the natives as well. They're going a little too wild with the fishing and hunting lately. Natives need to be limited as well. They are still wanting to have their cake and eat it too. Sweet deal the natives have.

You mean like taking impressionable young youths and using a position of authority to mold their thoughts. Yeah they are bastards. Does that include telling how those that believe in a certain religion should not be allowed to vote? Your just playin with us aren't ya? Nobody can be this much of a hypocrite. We don't need no education We don't need no thought control No dark sarcasm in the classroom Teachers leave them kids alone Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone! Do you not think that learners should know that the planet is being destroyed bu greed, consumption, and corporatism. Should I be neutral in telling them that if we don't make changes, like imposing carbon taxes etc., the world they will one day be adults in will be decimated? Should I not tell them oceans rising will have catastrophic consequences? You need to get a copy of "Social Justice at the HEART of Education" This paper addresses some of the themes and ideas that were raised and discussed at the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) July 2014 President’s Forum on Social Justice. The author presents an overview of topics covered under the broad umbrella of social justice, and offers some definitions, examples, and illustrations of how educators might take up the challenge to put equity and social justice at the centre of their practice. Notions of privilege and identity are highlighted, with a call to encourage student and teacher activism, and a rethinking of teacher education for social justice. http://www.ctf-fce.ca/en/Pages/catalogue/Publications.aspx I know you won't read these because it's easier to remain ignorant about social justice, while complaining in the background. Social justice is one of the most important topics taught in school. Here are some references to help you gain even a slight understanding. We are preparing students to be global citizens. That's why the neo-liberals want to gut pubic education. Because we are standing in their way of total control. Pct2017 Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 I didn't become a teacher to be neutral. It's not my job to be neutral when the topic of social justice is being discussed. So, just pretending that you are actually a teacher for a minute here. By your own convoluted logic, you are saying that if a raving, bible thumping whack job had the misfortune to fail in her original faculty at university and had to flee to the Faculty of Education, then it would be perfectly righteous for her to teach the young children in her class according to what "social justice" means through the lens of her life. You would have to be ok with her teaching her young students that abortion is akin to murder and that anyone on welfare is there because they are too lazy to get a real job. Remember, it is not her job to be neutral when the topic of social justice (as she sees it) is being discussed. Or, is it more the case that you believe that teachers (real teachers, that is) should promote social justice so long as it aligns with your view on the subject.
Ash74 Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 Ok I read them except for the one that was 132 page sucker. So if I post a Canadian taxpayers federation guide will you be just as open minded? You mentioned the carbon tax. Who do you think pays that? Who at the end of the day will suffer the most from a tax hike like that? You do not think that the corporations that these taxes are levied upon will not raise the prices of their products like hydro and gasoline? You know the little things people will need to you know stay alive. You are calling or a tax that will not punish the rich but hurt the poor working class you are trying to protect. You talk about social justice yet call for the alienation of a people that have a belief. You curse those that question your beliefs but scream equality. No......You are not a teacher. I refuse to believe that there is a school board that would have somebody as dangerous as you in front of students. Oh and that Floyd song was actually about cursing the teachers for making the students conform. “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Hang on a second there young fellow, you just recently admitted that you lied all of last year about being a teacher, so what possible credibility do you have left that would let us believe that you are not continuing the lie? A man much wiser than myself once stated that it is far better to tell the truth simply because it is easier to remember. Maybe try it out. You may find it rather cleansing.

What region did you graduate from? Where do you go to school now?

Ash74 Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 So you don't think I should care about the environment or social justice. Nice world we live in. But are you teaching about climate change or are you preaching against? (I know your not a teacher but lets play along) Is it not the point to make critical thinkers not followers? I doubt you have many that will disagree about wanting clean air but will you teach how a carbon tax will hurt? How it has become a disaster in Europe which even the Ontario Liberals have stated they have learned for their mistakes? Will you teach how the price of gas will go up and they will likely not able to buy a car to hot box?(cause the drugs will be cheaper than the fuel) You have admitted that you will use your position to have students bow to your political needs to get a decent grade? “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart.
