Black Dog Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 Part of my continuing observation of the zealotry of the left and their outrage at contrary opinions and beliefs. The irony here being the clowns who ran that website regularly banned anyone who dared to even slightly step outside the bounds of prevailing orthodoxy of the site. Free speech for me and not thee was the Free Dumbinian unofficial motto. Good riddance. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 You're taking things to extremes again. Yes, I'll admit it. And that's not even my position on this either. I agree with what you're getting at but as with so many topics on MLW, people are posting platitudes, absolutes and so on without talking about the meat of the issue, ie. what should be allowed/disallowed on a web board versus publishing, casual conversastion etc. ? What Warman was accused of was nothing anywhere near that shocking. He was accused of being the anon persona who made nasty posts about anne cooles. Ok, so then there likely was a case for defamation however the penalty was severe - although most of the penalty was his costs. Also, it's important to note that he served them with a letter asking for a retraction and didn't get it, right ? So just how damaging was their conversation? I'm betting it wasn't, in the slightest. I don't contest him demanding the Post retract the story if it couldn't be proved, but to go after some people posting on a web site was over the line, imho. Ok, so then your problem is not with the law, per se, but how much the judge awarded. And yes, you should be required to demonstrate that a statement has caused damage to your reputation or business. I don't think you should need to do this in every case. If I defame you in an obvious way, that gives you an extra burden. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
RB Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 My question isn't why did the court make its decision - it's why did you make a judgement call on this ? Why did you call it a sad day ? Reason - I won't have a place to go (least I forget) yearly visit and see what conservatives folks talk about Quote

Free speech for me and not thee was the Free Dumbinian unofficial motto. Good riddance. That happened to me, and yet I support FD in this fight. waldo Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 That happened to me, and yet I support FD in this fight. dig deeper with your support... they still have a way to go! You have made your contribution, right? ok, ok... calling all you echoing the "sad day" comments, please - step forward... only 42 days left to contribute! You can clearly remain anonymous, and more pointedly you can make your contribution under your MLW member name. I look forward to each and every one of you making your contributions and identifying you've done so within this thread. After all, seeing your MLW member name listed as a funding contributor is a true testament to raised concerns... particularly those claiming to be "deeply troubled". BubberMiley Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 I think one would have to make at least a $1000 contribution to demonstrate they are really serious about this issue and not just being sarcastic. waldo Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 at least a $1000 for someone troubled over this "sad day for Canada and Freedom"! Certainly much more for someone claiming to be "deeply" troubled! Quote
waldo Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 just 5 days left... to save Canada's freedom! Surely there must be more deeply troubled, deep pocket types to rally the freedom cause... for Canada! Quote
