jacee Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 ... coupled with Trudeau's own drug usage. And that's how pathetic and desperate Harper is. . Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Trudeau's one drug usage won't be a problem considering how many Canadians use drugs. Emery probably won't be a blip on the radar. The bigger issue is really the overall disappointment I have with Harper...I'm sure I'm not the only one. I don't think it will be a major issue, but it will resonate poorly with some voters, namely due to it occurring well he was a member of Parliament…..That coupled with Marc and Jodi’s very public positions and statements, and it’s very clear why the Trudeau Liberals are distancing themselves from the Emery family......if they thought it would help, they'd be embracing the two of them. Derek 2.0 Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 And that's how pathetic and desperate Harper is. . Yet it is the Trudeau Liberals that are distancing themselves from the Emery family....... Quote
Smallc Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Criminality never helps anything...but most don't consider marijuana use a legitimate crime...not even the police (trust me, I know). Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Criminality never helps anything...but most don't consider marijuana use a legitimate crime...not even the police (trust me, I know). Well that's good then......but why would the Trudeau Liberals be distancing themselves from the Emery family coming up on the 2015 election if most didn't have an issue with pot laws? Quote
Boges Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Haven't the CPC said they'd Liberalize pot laws? Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 I'm just saying, if she's a star candidate she should be looking to unseat a Conservative. That's all. That would certainly be my strategy if I thought there was a chance of unseating the CPC in the riding. As you say, why fight for second best Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Haven't the CPC said they'd Liberalize pot laws? Not as an adopted party policy, but some individual members are certainly in favour of more liberal laws. Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Couldn't they do that now? If there was enough political support…..certainly………But pot laws are low down on the list of priorities of the electorate. Quote
Smallc Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 It's a high priority for police and costs us billions Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 It's a high priority for police and costs us billions The don’t, nor should they, write and amend laws………I’d assume the police would also favour warrantless search and seizure powers, coupled with total civil disarmament. Quote
Smallc Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 This isn't the same as that. This would infringe on no ones rights. What you're talking about would. Quote
cybercoma Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 it will resonate poorly with some votersIt hasn't resonated yet. The only people who care are those who weren't going to vote for the Liberals anyway. Quote

What you're talking about would. Also the point was that Derek said the CPC said they would liberalize pot laws. They haven't despite having a majority government for the last 4 years. So they idea that they would is wrong. They have the opportunity to do it and they won't. Quote
Smallc Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Exactly. They've made mouth noises, as with many things. They haven't followed through, as with many things. Quote
cybercoma Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 You would think with a majority government they would have made good on their promises of openness and accountability. Instead, they're less open and accountable now than they've ever been. Quote
jacee Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 If there was enough political support..certainlyBut pot laws are low down on the list of priorities of the electorate. ... the poll suggests 66% of Canadians are in favour of the legalization or decriminalization of marijuana, with just 20% supporting leaving the laws as they are now. ... While it was the Liberals youth wing who initially put forward the motion, the poll shows its baby boomers who are the most likely to respond favourably to new marijuana legislation. Respondents aged 55- to- 64 were the most likely to support legalization or decriminalization, with 73% supporting a shift. All other demographics polled in the mid- to- high- 60s in support of marijuana law reform. http://ww2.nationalpost.com/m/wp/blog.html?b=news.nationalpost.com/2012/01/17/majority-of-canadians-support-legalizing-or-decriminalizing-marijuana-new-poll-suggests It's for the arthritis ... and retirement! Interesting trend here, though: The Conservatives have traditionally counted on large support and obedience to authority among seniors ... the 'war generations'. It's not so clear that that support will hold among the Woodstock generation. . Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 It hasn't resonated yet. The only people who care are those who weren't going to vote for the Liberals anyway. Not necessarily………social issues can transcend party lines. Quote

No I didn’t…….I said some members favour liberalised pot laws, despite this not being party policy. Quote
