dre Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 Yes, formally existed in Iraq, until Iraq was secured, then they had to leave. Hence what I already stated about Obama squandering the gains made, for purely political reasons. He let the fox back in the hen house, of course, not before calling them junior varsity, as if they weren't to be taken seriously. Well, how those junior vartisty doing now eh?! Do you just randomly make stuff up? They never "had to leave". Many of them were among the 80 thousand Sunni insurgents that were paid by the Bush and Malik administrations to stop fighting. They just hung out and waited until Malik booted the US out. Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger
overthere Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 Trans Canada is investing in shipping oil by rail now. Looks like they are giving up on Keystone too, and opting for the least safe and most expensive option. Canada is becoming a bad joke when it comes to looking after their own interests. We sell an inferior product thats more expensive produce and my guess is that we wont see the kind of sustained high oil proces necessary to make the tar sands profitable for quite a few years. Do people forget that not long ago we mined the oil sands at $30 and below? The catch 22 is this though. Without oil sands and shale oil, the price goes back up. We either mine it or we pay through the nose anyway, with a good chance of shortages. Quote

Without oil sands and shale oil, the price goes back up. We either mine it or we pay through the nose anyway, with a good chance of shortages. Thats not true. It wasnt oil and shale production that brought the price down, it was the opening of the spigot by countries in the middle east and they have plenty of production to spare. And the reality is, is fine to say "we either mine it or...", but WE dont mine anything. Private companies do, and they wont invest much in production unless oil is up over 100 per barrel. Thousands of people are being sent home. Heres an article that talks about some of the challenges. Not only is the price of oil way down, but the cost of harvesting will continue to go up... This is because all the easy projects and most fruitful geological formations have been developed. Costs are escalating, and shareholders are very interested in investment money there. http://business.financialpost.com/2014/08/22/fp-energy-aug-22-cost-cutting-fever/?__lsa=8f2e-1510 Quote I question things because I am human. Smallc Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 We do actually mine it, because we as Canadians benefit from the money. If oil sands and shale oil are going to stop being produced, the price will increase very quickly. There is no oil producing country that can maintain the low price level indefinitely. Quote

Without oil sands and shale oil, the price goes back up. We either mine it or we pay through the nose anyway, with a good chance of shortages. That must have been quite some time ago. The Canadian Energy Research Institute has the current break even for tar sands oil on the West Texas to be $85bbl and thats for an existing mine. It goes over a hundred for a startup. The Saudis are trying to maintain market share and they can produce at current prices for quite some time to come. Billions in their heritage fund. What can we do, stop importing and force the price back up, dont hold your breath. Maybe a time to tale a closer look at renewables. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/rob-magazine/is-oil-sands-development-still-worth-it/article21334385/ Quote

dre Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) There is no oil producing country that can maintain the low price level indefinitely. Yes theres still lots of production to spare. We do actually mine it, because we as Canadians benefit from the money. No we dont...we sold the rights to mostly foreign companies and we collect royalties. They wont mine anything unless its profitable. Thats why theres a parade of laid off workers leaving Alberta. And it would be terrible for Canadians in general if the price went back up anyways. It costs us 80% a barrel to get our product out of the ground. The Saudis and others just drill a whole and sweet crude gushes out almost ready to barrel. And they have LOTS more. Edited February 14, 2015 by dre Quote I question things because I am human. Smallc Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Take Russia and Canada off the market along with US shale. Watch what happens. Quote
overthere Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Speaking of pipelines, Trans Canada has applied to the US to build another, smaller pipeline across the border.... This one would start in North Dakota and move shale oil abou 450 kms from ND into the proposed Energy East line and take that US OIl to Canadian refineries along with a whack of bitumen. Aside from the monetary aspects and the benefits of not moving this oil by rail(oil from the Bakken deposit here was in the Lac Magantic horror), this to me is a clever PR move by Trans Canada. Lets see what Obama and the State Dept think about this puppy, will it take them 6+ years to not approve or approve it? I don't think so, and either way it will be a domectic s**tshow for Obama and company. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
