Guest Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 (edited) One of the best film critics I have heard/read. A bit of a lefty, but I'll miss his reviews and his blog. http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130404/MEMORY/130409989 Edited April 4, 2013 by bcsapper Quote

August1991 Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) Roger Ebert? One of the best film critics I have heard/read.I never really liked the guy's opinions. Too gay, too one-sided. Too US liberal. Surely America is more. ----- RIP? Where is Roger Ebert's "soul" now? Edited April 6, 2013 by August1991 Quote

Moonlight Graham Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) I thought he was a pretty level-headed critic, I liked him. He found value in both the good mainstream stuff and the artsy stuff. Some critics have their pompous heads way to up their asses and only give great reviews to artsy independent flicks while trashing most Hollywood stuff. Jay Stone of Postmedia News is like that. Guest American Woman Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I actually agree with August's opinion regarding Ebert's reviews, but I realize that he was an icon in the industry - and will be missed. Quote
kimmy Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) I liked Roger Ebert. One thing that he got that many movie "snobs" don't seem to is that different movies have different purposes and succeed or fail by whether they accomplish what they set out to do, not whether they appeal to movie snobs. He was capable of giving a gross-out comedy an enthusiastic review... if it was funny. RIP? Where is Roger Ebert's "soul" now? Roger himself wrote about this question. What I expect will most probably happen is that my body will fail, my mind will cease to function, and that will be that.-k Edited April 6, 2013 by kimmy Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
