No sh!t. Most Canadians born in the 1960s have circumcised ....errrr...equipment. In BC, the figure is still about 30% of newborns. No Jews involved.

Yeah, I was one of them! But, it wasn't done by a man biting off my foreskin! It was a surgical operation performed by a doctor in a hospital. Regardless of what people think regarding circumcision, the circumstances of where and how it is done are very important.

Anybody who believers exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist.

But, you agree that very few Jews actually bite the foreskin off of a newborn's penis in the 21st century. I hope.....

You don't know about it, so it mustn't be true, eh?

If you want video, you'll have to go hunting for it yourself.

I remain puzzled why you couldn't provide a link, in your post that mentioned it. You also didn't mention that it was a priest or that he wasn't actually biting off the end of the penis, but the foreskin. So again, you sex up the details to what end?

Very few Catholics flagellate. The Church in the Philippines is trying to get them to stop, but people keep doing the ritual. I didn't know this thread was about the common everyday religious activities. I never noticed Muslims whipping themselves with chains here. Maybe we don't have any real Muslims.

As an atheist, I find it all rather disturbing.

Well like I said, this is what you get with religion, and one reason why Jesus called the religious leaders of his day a brood of vipers.

I knew religion sucked the day my kindergarten teacher told me the dinosaur bone I had found in Alberta was a trick of the Devil. I never looked back...

As an atheist, I am disturbed by all of the atheists who trash religion without trying to understand why religious beliefs, rituals and gatherings are important to most people. A lot of activist atheists (especially online) seem to be reckless nihilists who just want to destroy, without thinking about what they would put in its place.

You're free to worship your sky fairy.

If only atheists were free not to worship one.

In the 90s...nobody gave a rat's rear about Islam or Christianity taking over and dictating our lives. Now there's even a war on science in some quarters. So...no...I'm not going to remain quiet while the religious types co-opt civilization. You're free to, however.

What are you talking about? I'm saying atheists are not free to not worship sky fairies because they're persecuted by the religious for it.

It's usually done, nowadays, by a religious official called a "mohel" (pronounced "moyel") who uses surgical tools and says rabbinic blessings. Edited by jbg

It will be nice once all three religions of that dispicable maggot Abraham are behind us.

I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

I say who cares? If they want to di that to themselves, go for it. No different than somebody cutting themselves to cope with something in their personal lives. Is it gross? Yep. Do I sort of understand? Kind of.

Well that seems a little melodramatic...

I agree that some activists are doing things that just seem petty. I really really wish that atheists would stop suing city halls to have Christmas mangers taken off city property, for example.

However, I do not buy into the premise that we must be kind to religion because it's important to people. No institution, whether it be government or religion or anything else, can be exempt from criticism, mockery, or other exercise of free speech.

I certainly believe in the right of adults to do as they wish to themselves, just as strongly as I believe in my right to laugh at them for it.

(btw, check out this loser! (caution, extreme gore. You can tell he loves his Prophet the most, because he is by far the bloodiest.)

However, when young children and even infants are made part of this stupidity, that strikes me as being seriously messed up.
