bleeding heart Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Oooooo....roundhouse kick to the head. Well done. Crane style. Oh no...don't tell me that you share with jbg the "Bestest Friends Forever!" theory of geopolitics...and consider any disagreement with it to be a kind of moral failure? Quote “There is a limit to how much we can constantly say no to the political masters in Washington. All we had was Afghanistan to wave. On every other file we were offside. Eventually we came onside on Haiti, so we got another arrow in our quiver." --Bill Graham, Former Canadian Foreign Minister, 2007

bleeding heart Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Are you planning on putting that F-35 on your credit card or are you paying cash? Is that a yes or a no? It's unclear so far. bleeding heart Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 I hope were friends forever as my wife is American and as is a good chunk of my family. So you think otherwise, I'm guessing? As I said--my whole point, in fact--is that countries have alliances; and there is no guarantee that such alliances will always last forever. I had foolishly thought this basic, undeniable truism, devoid of partisan politics and ideology, was totally uncontroversial. . But obviously I was mistaken. The ideologues will not perceive the lack of ideology....and so see everything as some sort of attack.' In this case, presumably, the perception is of "anti-Americanism," which is nowhere faintly evident. Political correctness sees insult where there is none. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always. Gandhi
WIP Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Would you enjoy the U.S. dropping Canada from the shield of its military umbrella? I think we not be viewing the U.S. as our "shield" in the future, as they become more and more focused on controlling the Arctic. In the decades to come, we are going to see millions of people flooding across the U.S. border as many areas like the Southwest dry out, while permafrost melts up north. It's easy to foresee how Canada gets trampled in the rush northward, as our water, open land, and untapped NNR's in the Arctic, become even more coveted by what's left of the American, Russian and Chinese empires. Quote Anybody who believers exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist. -- Kenneth Boulding, 1973
bush_cheney2004 Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 I don't know why Canada ever considered the U.S. as a "shield", but if it did/does then that is the reason China, Russia, or the USA can steal your coveted Siberian North America. During the Cold War, the U.S. considered Canada to be the "shield" and perfect place to detonate nuclear bombs. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
GostHacked Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Would you enjoy the U.S. dropping Canada from the shield of its military umbrella? The USA is no way obligated to assist Canada with military protection. If they step down, we as Canadians will step up. Quote

GostHacked Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 lol...the sky is green...eh, GH? If the US wanted to pull out of those agreements, there is nothing we can do, and there is nothing on the world stage in order to hold the USA accountable for pulling out of these agreements. Just because the NATO treaties exist, does not mean that it's going to last forever. Quote
