socialist
Alrighty. Whatever. So you wish to do away with sporting events as well. Ever give much thought to the thousands that would put out of a job? College basketball/football exploits and makes millions off the players. And if the players don't pan out or get hurt they are thrown to the curb. All is fine as long as these kids produce. Universities make millions off them and the athletes are exploited. I'm concerned with social justice. Many excellent young teachers care about social justice. Here is a great example. I hope you finally can learn what teaching for social justice is all about, ash. http://thewandereronline.com/democratizing-education-an-interview-with-dan-scratch-by-claire-edwards/

Lets say tomorrow it all gets cancelled. What do you think should happen to all the people that get put out of work. What about the ones that so make it but have their scholarships cut. What does that say to the ones that have been using a sport to get a scholarship so they can better themselves? You say "sorry, this brings useless joy to people and should be banned" You talk about social justice yet sound like a recruiter for the North Korean army

Ash74
" A lot of times we reduce education to getting a job. And obviously that’s important; I want my students to discover their passion and get paid for it and have a good life. But I also want them to be critical active participants in the world that they live in – in their communities, their neighborhoods, their country. Because if they’re not, someone else will take up their spot. So they have a voice and a role to play and I’m encouraging them to use it. Not what ideology to follow, but to use their power and their voice. That’s political." Ok, He is talking about teaching kids how to speak out. Never said that was a bad thing, If he is teaching all the diffierent views and not just what he feels is important. I’m a white man standing up in front of a classroom with a majority of First Nations/Métis students. I’m certainly sensitive of that, and I think about the perception…I have a lot of privilege to be able to analyze my place in society, and not be bogged down with the stresses of being able to make rent or getting groceries for my family. So the choice that I think we have as teachers is: what are you going to do with that privilege? You can choose not to recognize it, as if it doesn’t exist. If you do choose to recognize it, how will you use it? Here he talks about how he does not have the worries of rent and hunger because he is very well paid Teaching about social justice is not telling students what to think about social justice. Did you see this part? Please take notes for your imaginary students.
Ash74
I live on $730 a month in a geared to income apartment. I eat one meal a day so I don't run out of food here is my diet for my contentment. Morning Smoothie: 4 cups of water 1 Tablespoon of Epsom Salts 2 Tablespoons of Coco Powder Dash of Cinnamon 1 Tablespoons of Hemp Protien Powder 1/2 teaspoon of Potassium Powder 1 teaspoon of Food Grade Diatomaecous Earth Daily Meal: Boiled Veggies and Chic Peas with Coconut Oil and Sea Salt What I've understood about the system of Rich and Poor is that the rich cannot be rich unless there is a considerable amount of poverty. Within the year 2015-2017 people will be committing suicide by hanging as a revolt against the Government. They will know that being an infinite spirit is more fulfilling then being a biological body that is restricted by a system set up by greedy inbreed communities, snobby people that think their shit don't stink and Government behaviors of fear based greed. Kathleen Wynne probably knows this and covers her face periodically from time to time as she looks herself in the mirror. Suicide will not be through sadness or oppression it will be the cause of a unsustainable system and The Ontario Government continuing a flawed system. Telling a person that they are not working hard enough, to pick up their feet, quit asking for a hand out, get a job, get a life you loser, you bum, why would I help you, your nothing, your not worth it is basically blaming the problem on them when it has nothing to do with them. It is a system created by the Government, as all jobs are shipped overseas for cheaper labor such as sweat-shops for making goods for Wal-Mart etc etc. Civil Jobs are being cut down gradually that soon even a bus driver is going to be paid below minimum wadge. But we gotta keep positive right???? So keep watching TV, drink lots of Beer, smoke a joint and shop at Wal-Mart that way everthing will be fine!!! I know that my body is starving but my spirit is happy. I cannot ignore that my biological life is going to be extremely short as so many others will be the same. Receiving love and expressing love is why we are here in a human body before we become infinite beings. I always say that $730 a month is like 8 pack of crayons "It's what you do with the colors that are given to you" Take Care Folks oxox So getting a job is wrong? I like being able to buy a pizza. I started out at the bottom and worked my way up. I sacrificed for my children and have no regrets for it. I read history and follow politics because I enjoy it. I am not so arrogant that I will tell people how they should enjoy their free time. We pay the stupid amount of taxes so this person can collect their check. guyser
Your post is a good reminder of how neo-liberalism is destroying society. It's all about profits at anyone's expense. Have you ever heard of critical thinking? Do they skip that in Teachers College? Maybe you dont know due to not going or yuo skipped that class. Anyhow.... It's too bad that the non-thinkers are more concerned with acceptable oppression in the form of a silly tournament called March Madness than in the plight of their fellow human beings. So you think a sporting tournament is silly and it being a waste of time. I suppose then that all sporting events is silly. Heres where critical thinking comes in to play......The OTFPF is and was a huge investor in sports and at one time owned the Maple Leafs which paid them a very handsome profit. And teachers pensions were paid from that. Whoops.....didnt think about that did you?

What are you thinking should happen to the thousands that will be out of a job? How many people have you just taken scholarships and money towards, that's right education? The universities get the money. How is that different than government collecting taxes than giving it to school boards? But lemme guess, you have decided that universities are evil too
Ash74
We could get back on topic. Ban all college sports and put the people that are put out of work on welfare. Increase welfare with the tax dollars that are going to be taken from the greedy rich people. Which is anybody not on welfare. Seen that in the early 90's. I did not work. Michael Hardner
So getting a job is wrong? Where did you get that ? We pay the stupid amount of taxes so this person can collect their check. The only way to interpret this sentence is that our taxes are high due to welfare programs. It's been a few years since somebody put forward that idea on here, ie. that welfare takes up a lot of our taxes, and from the discussions back then it was actually very hard to get numbers believe it or not. But Ontario Works, for example, spent about $2B in 2009/2010 and the Ontario budget in 2013 was about $125B. http://www.canadiansocialresearch.net/onbkmrk.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_Ontario#Budget

So your argument that because people enjoy watching sports they are not paying attention to the REAL issues that plague the world. I like video games but still am bothered by children going to bed hungry. Just because a person likes watching basketball on TV does not mean they do not care. What a prejudice statement. PrimeNumber
You like playing video games? LOL It's sometimes hard the tell the difference between adolescents and adults these days. More than half of adults in North America play video games. What makes playing video games any worse than any other hobby? Because you don't do it? I'm almost scared to ask what you do for fun. You don't watch spectator sports or play video games. Do you knit? Crochet?

Yes, it relaxes me after work. I quit smoking and drinking after my kids were born and this helps. Not ashamed of it. It is after all my money that I earned to purchase what I want. I know that concept of freewill drives you insane.

So does this count for all types of games? Are athletes socially immature because they play games? What about people on game shows? They must all be socially immature because they're playing a game right? I think almost everyone I know must have Peter Pan syndrome because they like to have fun. Wow never knew you were a psychologist too. It's okay to fight for social justice and play video games. Trust me, you can do both. So pretending to be something you're not on an opinion forum is more productive than pretending to be something you're not in a video game? Buddy give your head a shake. You're the only one living in a fantasy world.
