Boges Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 I see a working chat. No one's in it though. Quote
Bonam Posted October 12, 2012 Report Posted October 12, 2012 That is an option, I can set the forums to be open during specific times/dates. That's not a difficult thing to do. Bad idea. If the chat function must be there, it should be available at all times, or you restrict its use to people who can be around at certain specific times only. I don't like the idea of creating a "forum elite" here that talk behind the backs of other posters. See my post above for more. Quote
Mr.Canada Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 I have to say that when I was thinking of a chat feature I was thinking of a shout box type of format where anyone could say whatever they wanted. I think having a shoutbox on the same page as the forums would be great because it wouldn't remove you completely from the forum like the chat does. With a shoutbox people could chat plus post on the forum at the same time. Shoutbox as in a box at the top of the forum where people can type in real time. I just think it's a better option then a full on chat room. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
Guest Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 (edited) Deleted. Didn't see there were two pages. Edited October 14, 2012 by bcsapper Quote
TheNewTeddy Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 No one, as that would be next to impossible to do in real time. There would be rules, and if someone was present (and I could confirm the infraction) then normal suspensions and or bannings would be issued. That is an option, I can set the forums to be open during specific times/dates. That's not a difficult thing to do. Other forums with moderators of the activity level found here appoint "Prefects" - IE people who moderate chat alone and not the forum. Also even forums with unofficial user run chat rooms have been known to infract users on the main forum for occurrences in chat. Quote Feel free to contact me outside the forums. Boges Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 Well if no one is going to use it, then there's no point. Quote

If there's nobody there, or maybe two people talking about something you're not interested in, how long do you want to be there instead of doing something? The_Squid Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 I think a chat feature wouldtake away from the forum. Quote
TheNewTeddy Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 TBH I thought I would use it often but now I'm not so sure. Quote Feel free to contact me outside the forums. Add "TheNewTeddy" to Twitter, Facebook, or Hotmail to reach me!
Sleipnir Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) I'm personally for the idea of a political chatroom. You see a lot of chatrooms for varies topic, but few are for political orientation. I don't think that the chat room should be moderated. Let's have some free speech going on. maybe people don't need rules to govern every aspect of everything. From my experience with chatrooms: you tend to experience spamming, scrolling, obscene sexual messages or insane religious preachers....you then need moderators to keep them at bay. I think one of the limitation to study the idea of having a chatroom, is the limit of having only 5 people allowed in there at one time. That limit has been lifted. Thanks Quote Have any issues, problems using the forum? Post a message in the Support and Questions section of the forums.
Sleipnir Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) Would it be possible to suggest opening up the chat to the non-registered users? Some people like going into chatrooms without actually registering... RB Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 Obviously I don't come around often enough to chat, I didn't notice a chat feature. This is a really good forum without the chat feature. Would I chat, maybe not. Quote
TheNewTeddy Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 Election results rolling in is a prime time to be in a chat room. If this US election results in no or almost no activity in Chat, it means Chat has failed. Quote Feel free to contact me outside the forums. Guest American Woman Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 Election results rolling in is a prime time to be in a chat room. If this US election results in no or almost no activity in Chat, it means Chat has failed. It sounds as if it were a success activity wise, but it sure makes the board less interesting this morning; following months of pre-election posting, most of the election night comments were evidently made in the chat room. jbg Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 I didn't see this thread when I opened a new thread (link). Perhaps they should be merged.
