There should be a Parliament rule, that MP's can not tell untruths knowingly.

And how exactly would that be enforced?

Politicians lie. If MPs were to be ejected from the house for lying, the lower chamber would be empty in a week or so.

Lol, very nice.

Not really. Politicians lie because A ) they're people, and almost all people lie quite regularly, and B ) people say they want the truth, but, in reality, they can't handle it, and they punish politicians who tell them things that they don't want to hear.

Politicians tell me things I dont want to hear everyday. If it were up to me Canada would be a right wing dictatorship like Franco's Spain wit hall left wing options banned. However since we're stuck with this system I have to listen to socialists tell me things that I don't agree with.

Is there any reference to this in our constitution? Shouldn't there be given this is how we apparently prefer to be governed?

Along with mental health professionals, I'm sure.

Since this is obviously a trolling post, I gave you a trolling answer. At least, I hope, for your sake, that you're trolling.

I can't do much about human nature.

Why not? Governments do it all the time.

Listening to you expound on how well our system of has served us in the past in too many threads to count I get the sense what you're really adverse to is changing our government's nature. People do that from time to time too.

Absolutely not.

So what is the purpose behind much of the rule of law if not to change or otherwise influence our human nature?

There are some basic parts of human nature that you simply cannot change. The ability of the electorate to accept the truth and to reward people for the truth seems to be one of them.

Oh, I've always known that, or at least, for a very long time....my problem is when people singe out politicians.

You see for me, it's like this:

I try not to lie, cheat, or steal. I assume when I meet someone that they're the same...and I'm quickly proven wrong. I know that there are some people like me, but, not many. I assume the same for politicians. I usually hope the people that make it to the top are at least partly populated by those people.

You figure the government should operate on hope alone that people will simply regulate their own nature whether they want to or not, and if people choose the latter, where does the government get off saying otherwise?

We have rules for a reason. That doesn't mean that we can control everything.

I think it takes a special set of qualities to make it to the top of politics, and a lot of these are not conductive to an honest way of life. They say power corrupts, and I'm sure that's true to an extent, but I also think that the people who seek political power are also the same type who'll abuse it.

And that means we can control some things. Which brings us back to your .

If lying is such an important part of the process of governing ourselves shouldn't there be at least some passing reference to it in our constitution?

And, like I said, that's mostly the fault of the populace...although good men do seem to make it to the top often enough.
