Wilber Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 Chrysler is better now, but is also a two time loser with the first bailout happening in 1979. The Germans realized what a huge mistake they made and promptly spit Chrysler out. Like AMC before it, I don't expect Chrysler to survive the next economic "crisis". Daimler turned out to be one of the worst things that ever happened to Chrysler. Daimler really didn't have a clue what to do with the company. Chrysler was doing quite well before Daimler came along but the bright lights that came up with cars like the Viper, PT Cruiser, Prowler etc ended up elsewhere after Daimler took over. Chrysler ended up with some previous generation Mercedes platforms to work with. Chrysler's greatest need was something to compete in the small car market but Daimler was no help there. Fiat is doing its best to rectify that shortcoming. Fiat has done more for Chrysler's product line in two years than Daimler did the whole time they were together, including the first diesel 1/2 ton pickup in the North American market. The irony of it is the last remnant of the merge came to fruit after the breakup. The new Grand Cherokee and Durango are based on the latest ML platform and came out a year before the Mercedes version. The problem both Fiat and Chrysler face is a world of go big or go home. By combining they hope to be big enough to survive. Time will tell but I hope so. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
Shady Posted May 19, 2014 Author Report Posted May 19, 2014 GM fined $36 million dollars, also announces new massive recall. A humourous take on everything involved, including a list assembled by GM of words not to say be employees regarding it's vehicle problems! Just more evidence that they never deserved to be bailed out. Quote
Guest Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 Rolling sarcophagus? I wish I'd been at the meeting where they came up with their list of banned words. Quote
