eyeball
THats the thing is no matter how you slice it if you endorse or accept the results of a process you are endorsing the process itself. If its ok to get information by torturing then we should torture folks! And that's what the purpose of this recent message is, to grease the slope. We've only slid this far because of the messages we were receiving post 9/11 and now it's time to rinse and repeat.
Wilber
I've changed my mind. Just think of the money we could save. If we break off relations with every government known to have used torture we could cut the size of our diplomatic corps by at least 50%
tseringwangdu
Not at all. If we suspect we have recieved information aquired by using torture, we should halt trade and diplomatic relations with that country and do whatever we can to make sure its leaders wind up in prison for a long time. I'm normally against torture. It's unethical and illegal. Why should our government be able to use info obtained through illegal means when our courts can't do the same? However, I would permit info obtained from torture to be used in the above mentioned "exceptional circumstances". If there is a major security threat ie: terrorism to Canada and info obtained by torture could possibly mitigate the threat then I would be okay in allowing use of that info in those very special cases. However, there's always the chance of this kind of power being abused. More if a black eye for Toews!

Aggressive conservative foreign policy promoting war and occupation and trade restraints will only increase threats Canada receives. Then to address those increased threats due to an aggressive foreign policy the conservatives will now adopt more aggressive procedures of gathering info.
