Huh? And you know this because you are in the resto business?

Is McDonald's a threat to Le Bernardin?

How is a McDo Drive-Thru different from a food truck?

In many ways, it's not. Which is why I'm wondering why I'm not seeing more restaurant owners calling for the city to restrict drive-throughs since alternative delivery methods are such a enormous competitive advantage.

Whoa! Slow down guys we don't need to get too ethnic with these foods.

Under a new street food policy unanimously approved by councillors, the vendors will now also be allowed to sell:

• Pre-packaged cut fruits and vegetables using only vinaigrette dips;

• Whole fruits and vegetables, including corn on the cob;

• Pre-packaged fruit salad;

• Bagels with individual serving containers of butter, margarine, peanut butter or jam;

• Pre-packaged nuts and seeds;

• Pre-packaged salads containing only vegetables and/or fruits with all dressings to be pre-packaged and not requiring refrigeration;

• Pre-packaged Tabbouleh salad and pita bread;

• Soups;

• Pre-cooked veggie burgers;

• Coffee and tea.

This is great because I'd have no clue where to get a Bagel and a Coffee in Toronto. :unsure:

If there's one thing I learned from this thread it's that the supposed conservatives on this forum don't actually give a crap about free markets, small businesses, and entrepreneurs. They're elitist corporate windbags that are more concerned with supporting their team than having principles.

What, pray tell, is "their" team?

This might be one of the reason's people are leery of different types of food carts/trucks.

People don't have to eat from them. Carts that are known for serving contaminated food aren't going to be in business very long. More to the point, there should be proper health inspections that are enforced. There's no reason that someone can should continue to operate if they have multiple serious health issues, just as a restaurant would be shut down. In NB, and I'm sure it's the same for Ontario, the gov's website publishes all inspection sheets each month. You can actually go through the database and search the results. They even colour code it, so you can see the results more quickly.

So the problem is not with the carts existing, but with inspections and enforcement being done properly. Any argument you make against food carts, you can make against any restaurant in a building. I don't see on what grounds you could make a blanket ban of all food carts. And as far as health goes, I can see them cooking my food on a food truck or cart. I'm right there next to the kitchen. I can't see what the hell is going on in the kitchen in most restaurants. You have no idea how sanitary the operation is behind closed doors.

FWIW I think more food carts would be great. They should offer lower food prices for consumers and force the brick and mortar restaurants to compete or die. Good old capitalism.

But, in the interest of maintaining municipal revenues, the licensing fees food carts pay should be carefully designed (or we can just shut down some damn libraries and swimming pools!)

Since when do you care about maintaining revenues?

Shocking fact of the day (to me at least)....I had no idea that Montreal had banned street food vendors since 1945.

Montreal? Seriously? TO I could have predicted but Montreal?

They just repealed it....sigh, give them about 3 weeks and they'll have far more choice and better food for offer than TO.

I was surprised by this last year when I was in Montreal. I expected it to have a large and vibrant street vendor scene. Nothing. You could get a top-notch ham and cheese on a baguette in a depanneur though and for only like $3. I f'ing love Montreal.

No doubt. Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver are already miles ahead on this.

Food truck fare is prepared in real professional kitchens and finished off on-site. There's no difference really between the stuff you get out of a food truck and what you;d get in a restaurant.

Oh look who is an expert on food preparation.

Of course there could be. You are in such a rush to lecture in your usual patronizing know it all tone yet

again you spew absurdity.

Unless a food truck has properly controlled hygiene practices its not the same at all. There is more

opportunity for spoilage from lack of temperature control and safe storage. There is more likelihood of vermin

infestation and hand to hand germs.

Genius why don't you go and read about health concerns on mobile platforms before you spew off like a know

it all.

Go on genius, guarantee someone with a small stand is going to guarantee conformity to health standards.

It is alredy a hit and miss with most restaurants.

Tell me genius are you so concerned with showing everyone you are cosmopolitan in your tastes?

Hah.

I would be a tad more careful trying to prove to everyone how avant guardes you are putting things in your mouth.

Actually, you are being absurd , not BD.

Well now, isnt this rich! Someone castigating another and then posts such obvious-isms such...if the food holding temp is not right , food will spoil.

Well duh!

Oh and more vermin than a restuarant huh? Sorry ....what was that about an expert ? The truth is a truck is far less a concern for vermin infestation since all garbage is out of the place at night and during the day....and vermin have a hard time catching up to trucks in able to jump on the moving beasts.

Heres more news, a bricks and mortar restaurant doesnt move,. Shocking isnt it?

I suppose you didnt know the health restrictions and inspections are the same whether moving or not?

Genius why don't you go...

Go on genius,

Considering the total farce this post is, yes, BD is a genius in comparison .

I would be a tad more careful trying to prove to everyone how avant guardes you are putting things in your mouth.

He was far more careful than this claptrap you posted.

Total bunch of hooey.

Yes, this is the second bit of disproportionately outraged nonsense I've seen in the past couple days (the other one was directed at me).

It would seem our resident rageaholics let their tempers get in the way of their reason.
