Previous governments have handled such for votes without consideration for tax payers OR common sense. Canada has been loosest country with immigration and refugee laws all too long. The benefits given FOR YEARS to claimants have been laughable then when denied, they simply might disappear. Lets get reasonable. 20 years of appeals and costs are unacceptable!

"They won't be getting extras that Canadians don't get, like dental, eye care, and discretionary pharmaceuticals."

So, if my underpaid migrant worker collapses at my fish plant because a bad tooth has infected him so badly it's penetrated to his eye socket I can refuse his request for a Tylenol, tell him to stop whining and get back to work?

Sweet.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Where did that rant come from? Migrant worker isn't a refugee.

Did you even read the article before showing red tendencies?

"Canadians have been telling us they don't think that smuggled migrants and bogus asylum claimants should be getting better health-care benefits than Canadian seniors and taxpayers," Kenney said. "They won't be getting extras that Canadians don't get, like dental, eye care, and discretionary pharmaceuticals."

Most refugee claimants will still get coverage similar to most provincial health plans while officials determine whether their claim is genuine, but coverage for prescription drugs, glasses, and dentist visits would disappear.

I once had a tooth infection so bad that I literally could not think and had to be lead around by my roomate. I was minutes away from grabbing a steak knife and ripping the tooth out myself.

Thankfully I'm not a refugee, otherwise I'd have not got the medicine that helped me.

A place that's increasingly cynical whenever I see stories/threads involving support for Jason Kenny, immigration/immigrants/migrants, taxpayer outrage and public policy.

I'm a citizen. Paid taxes for years. I have to pay for a dentist or my glasses. Why should a refugee from the USA or Hungary for example get something for free that I have to pay for.

Oh I see, from 'out there'in la la land.

So they will be treaded just like Canadians but will undercut Canadian workers on wages? Race to the bottom.

Oh for Jesus H Christ' sake!

Because helping some poor bastard with a raging painful toothache is the decent humane thing to do.

Am I to believe Jason Kenny would pinch up his face and say 'not on the public's tab' and you'd cheer him on?

Like I said Jesus H Christ.

If the poor bastard is so incapacitated by a toothache, let him queue up at the emergency. I'm sure someone will have a pair of pliers handy to cure that toothache. :P

I have to laugh at hypocrites that keep harping about equal treatment for all and now that refugees are to be treated equally to Canadians, they're up in arms. Too amusing for words.

How true.

Actually it appears likely they haven't even understood the article or the facts. One seems to think it's about immigrants taking Canadian jobs.. Maroons par excellence.

When the number of 'refugee' claimants are from Hungary, a democracy that abandon claims on investigation, it's time we tightened up like most other coubntries have.

We have a 'poor bastard' war criminal phony refugee here that has fought the system with appeals for 20 years costing us a fortune. I'm soooo glad you're behind him and his rights not mine, a Canadian citizen paying the tab.

Jesus H Christ... You pay if you want, I think the present system is screwing Canadians.

Leon Mugesera gets reprieve as judge delays deportation to Rwanda

Leon Mugesera is slated for deportation to Rwanda today to face criminal charges related to the 1994 killings of between 800,000 and one million Rwandans.

Leon Mugesera; accused of helping incite the Rwandan genocide; arrives at Federal Court

a delay of his expulsion from Canada. Deportation of accused Rwandan war criminal may be a long way off

MONTREAL - In the latest bizarre twist in a two-decade-old case, a man accused of inciting the Rwandan genocide has won a court order imploring the Canadian government not to deport him.

The decision, handed down in Quebec Superior Court, came at the 11th-hour for Leon Mugesera, who was slated for deportation to Rwanda on Thursday from Canada.

Yes we have a lot to be thankful for. Thankfully we have lots of wealth and free enterprise in our country so that we can tax the free enterprisers and hand out freebies to OUR citizens.

I was once hungry and bought myself a hamburger. Thankfully I'm not an African and I live in a country where over 90% of the population has jobs so I could do so.

I was once horny so I had unpretected sex with a female. Thankfully I am not in Africa so I didn't get HIV.

There's only so much wealth to go around. Canadian taxpayers aren't a charity for refugees. If you want to pay for their toothaches, then write a cheque, don't force unwilling Canadians to do so.

Thank god for sane people like you. :)

Isn't it just special that paranoia about cheats leads Cons to punish all refugees, most of whom come from years of strife and oppression, poor nutrition and no health care.

I'll bet if we audited everybody over $500k and caught all the rich tax cheats, it'd save us enough money to buy glasses for the refugee kids so they can see to learn to read English.

Hell one rich tax cheat could likely fund the whole program.

Not a lot of Christian charity among the Cons is there. Hell, atheists are more charitable than the Christian Cons in Frawdawa (with thanks to whoever came up with that ... It's perfect!)

No, much better that taxpayers' money go to corporate subsidies, because those poor oil stockholders in the Alberta money pits really need money so bad they'd steal medicine from children.

Ya, better some child should die from an abcessed tooth (the infection travels quickly to the brain) than a stockholder or executive should give up their hard won tax fraud/corporate payoff cash.

I can see the logic in that.

It's not a pleasant sight ... but I can see it.

I think "Audit the rich!!" has a lot of potential as a street protest slogan ... hmmm ... B)

I'm a citizen. I've probably taken more out of the system than I put in. I'm currently between jobs and on social assistance. Why should I get something for free that you have to pay for?

Not true--- if a refugee you'd have had it fixed by the best dentist in Canada at no cost---- if a citizen you could have done the same thing but ended up with a bill for 2,000 Bux

Sweet.

So, you are telling us that you own a fish plant and you are also a medical doctor?--

Do you have authorization to prescribe ANY medication to anyone?

And also the bills for his large family along with the millions in court costs Canada has incurred to try to deport his criminal ass and then some idiot judge in Quebec decides that we haven't spent enough on this serial killer?

I am a citizen, and I got my treatment at no cost, meanwhile this bill would force refugees to pay $2000

Clearly he has a point. I don't want migrant workers to have better supplementary health care than me. Where's our universal pharmacare? Dental work?

He'd have a point if the universal practice was to deny treatment to anyone who shows up at emergency clinics with an agonizing and dangerously abscessed tooth without the means to pay for it. Is that how you'd like to be treated if it was you?

If an adult asks you for a Tylenol, and you comply with his request, you are not going to be the victim of a successful lawsuit.
