The Right One
An Islamic bookstore in Toronto is selling a book that has chapters dedicated to showing men how to effectively beat, restrain, and otherwise control their wives. The book is called, 'A Gift to Muslim Couple.' Eric Brazau brought the book to our attention after he says the police and Bob Rae's office 'summarily dismissed' his complaint. http://www.newstalk1010.com/News/localnews/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10363468

Guest American Woman
I would like any qualified Muslim to do a book review please. Does this count? Moderate Muslim Tarek Fatah says this book isn’t preaching anything that Muslims don’t already know about. “The Muslim community knows that this is widespread, that a woman can be beaten. Muslim leaders will deny this.” He also added that anyone who sells the book should be charged for inciting violence against women. Muslim book encourages restraining and threatening stupid wives All I can say is -unbelievable.

Obviously it's not "the Muslims," as I quoted a Muslim who said "anyone who sells the book should be charged for inciting violence against women." It's a problem within Islam, not a problem with Islam.

Michael Hardner
cause its the cults go to book, it brainwashes, its dangerous to society I believe that a Canadian judge banned publication of certain passages in certain contexts. Leviticus is a brutal code of law to follow... hard to see why more of the bible isn't banned from time to time.
cybercoma
What an appalling pile of crap. However, I'm apprehensive about censoring books, even if I find their subject matter utterly reprehensible. There are a lot of problems with it....not the least of which is the State determining what is proper, what is true, and what is acceptable paramaters of thought. Even in the U.S. advocacy of and instruction in violence has normally been an exception from the relatively absolute First Amendment. Where they have burned books, they will end in burning human beings.” - Heinrich Heine, Almansor (1821)

Boges
Hate speech is banned in Canada. Is not! Unless you're advocating for violence against an identifiable groupe. We do have these kangaroo courts called Human Rights Tribunals where people who feel they've been wronged can sue. Guest Peeves
cause its the cults go to book, it brainwashes, its dangerous to society Very interesting. Obviously the lyrics of rappers should be banned too then..Necro was her favorite rapper. Necro Dead Body Disposal LyricsSend "Dead Body Disposal" Ringtone to your Cell Solemon Sol & Lincoln from Snatch] [Verse 1] Let's talk about dead body disposal My proposal take the corpse to the bathtub And drain the blood out of the bastard Strip ya self nude first so you don't get blood on ya new shirt And cut the fuckin' corpse up like a butcher to meat kid And put the pieces inside trash bags So she'll be wreaking like a fags ass With flesh covered in leeches And throw the bags away In various trash bins in different areas This shit's hilarious Nobody notices some asshole taking out the garbage Who would know it's a carcass? Even if they were focusing 'cause the plastic bag is dark kid And even the nosy bitch wouldn't open it, it make no sense And if you do it just before a trash pick up The bodies hauled away before it decays and stinks up It won't be noticed but literally turns up other shit And ya bag is in the middle buried right under it Especially if you double-bagged it Ya victim'll stay a faggot in fragments forever stagnet Suggesting the bible is the equivalent of the Koran is certainly not supportable given the bible has reformation and practitioner- followers to years of being subject to civil law. The Koran is still perceived as contemporary use sharia law in some countries and by some in the West. I wold neither see the Koran nor the bible banned, but any that feel a book directing advocating violence against women IN TODAY'S society should be investigated by the authorities. BTW where are the demonstrators in front of the book shop? If Tom Sawyer draws nays, shouldn't this!
bleeding heart
To be sure, spousal abuse is not proper and in fact illegal. Still, banning books concerns me. But determining that written advocacy is identical with the act itself is not a given; at least it's a legally (and morally) complex matter in some cases. Because that's we're talking about: written advocacy, not the act itself. Do those who advocate for war in Iran constitiute war criminals? I'm not being coy; it's a serious, perfectly germane question. Edited March 31, 2012 by bleeding heart
