capricorn Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Why are you supporting her and why are other members supporting her. I don't see anything to special about her myself. What I have gleaned from the coverage of this race are the varying opinions of NDPers about whether the party should move more toward the centre or stick to the status quo. Due to her well documented and entrenched union ties, Nash might be seen as the candidate most likely to stick to the original principles of the party. For some, that may be the deciding factor to move them into Nash's camp. As an outsider looking in, I don't see anything that makes her shine above the other contenders. I have watched the debates and Mulcair appears to me the best of the lot. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Evening Star Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 The Liberals lost their support to the Conservatives and not the NDP in 2011? Absolutely, in many cases. Look at the GTA. Quote

WWWTT Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Are any of the candidates not good speakers? Yes Nikki Asthon and Mulcair. WWWTT Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 He and Cullen are easily the best speakers of the lot imo. Then you are not properly listening to the speech mechanics. Both Mulcair and Ashton gasp/inhale between sentences. When you have an opportunity take special notice and focus strictly on the mechanics of speech as opposed to what they are saying. This bad habit can be very annoying and turn people off! I also believe that a contributing factor could be that the speaker is trying to convey too much info in what the speaker may percieve to be too short of period of time and so the speaker over compensates. For me quality of voice, speech and the rythm of speech are very important qualities! Don't believe me?Ask Stephen Dion the importance of rythm and mechanics! cybercoma Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Then you are not properly listening to the speech mechanics. How pedantic can you get? Both Mulcair and Ashton gasp/inhale between sentences.Oh my... they actually inhale between sentences. When you have an opportunity take special notice and focus strictly on the mechanics of speech as opposed to what they are saying. It must be real serious issue if it requires taking "special notice" and having "strict focus".This bad habit can be very annoying and turn people off! You're the only person I have ever seen say anything about this. The only public figure I can think of that does this in an overt way is David Suzuki. For me quality of voice, speech and the rythm of speech are very important qualities!Don't believe me?Ask Stephen Dion the importance of rythm and mechanics! WWWTT Mulcair speaks French and English both flawlessly, but here you are comparing him to Dion? Do you realize just how far out in left field you are? WWWTT Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Good for you Cyber you disagree with me! This is something I feel strongly about because one of the biggest tasks the NDP leader will have is appealing to new voters.Or in other words the new leader of the NDP will have to convince those who have not voted NDP in the past to do so in the future. Holding on to the current level of support is very important aswell! But in politics it is very common knowledge that if your support is not growing then it will be shrinking, there is no in-between! Keep in mind that Jack Layton had time to grow into his position, and the same approach should be taken for the next NDP leader! Either way its my opinion, and I have success with my belief and course so I see no reason to fix something that works better then expected! WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! WWWTT Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Mulcair speaks French and English both flawlessly No he does not! When he speaks in English he gasps when he inhales between sentences and his rythm is off. I am not fluent in French and there is always an interpreter translating making it difficult for me to focus on his speech pattern in French so therefore I have bein not able to establish yet if he has the same problem with French. WWWTT Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Question....if you were the PM, who would you want as the leader of the NDP and why? Is that a real important question? Newfoundlander Posted March 19, 2012 Author Report Posted March 19, 2012 Question....if you were the PM, who would you want as the leader of the NDP and why? Peggy Nash or Brian Topp, both are the most left-wing and easiest to attack in my opinion. Neither of them have impressed much in the leadership debates so they'd have trouble going toe to toe with both Harper and Rae. Polling has shown neither of them would do well in Quebec, particularly Nash. Topp could possibly lose a by-election in Quebec, and who knows what might happen with Mulcair and the Quebec wing of the party if he does't win. Thomas Mulcair's win could also lead to a divided party, which would also be very beneficial for Harper. Quote

The last NDP leadership race was about this long 10 years ago. At least there's a bit of a debate going on rather than rushing through. That didnt do well with the Liberals.
