Wild Bill Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 With consistent reports that say Mulcair is the front-runner, as well as Cullen having quite a bit of support, I would disagree with your assessment. I don't believe Cullen has as much support as the media is suggesting, but you may see Muclair win on the first or second ballot. In which case, I'll assume you'll admit that the party proved your assertion incorrect. Hey, I never argue with success! It's always much easier to explain after the fact than to predict ahead of time! If Peggy Nash wins are you going to switch parties? This situation on the right is what got Chretien three majorities. I believe this already happened for the favour of the conservatives in May 2011. However if the liberals were to regain support,it would come back from the conservatives where it originally left to during the 2011 election. This would leave the conservatives in minority position. Aswell there is the possibility that the NDP can displace the conservatives and take advantage of vote splitting and get a minority or majority government!Expecially if the liberals move further over to the centre and right of where the conservatives are parked! Newfoundlander Posted March 17, 2012 Author Report Posted March 17, 2012 I can't see anyway the NDP will be able to keep their current support if Nash wins the leadership. Unless the Liberals are much worse off then it appears they should have no problem gaining back support. Quote

WLDB Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 The Liberals lost their support to the Conservatives and not the NDP in 2011? Id say most of the support they lost went to the Conservatives. Many more Liberal seats went to the Conservatives than to the NDP. The NDP got most of its new support from people who were previously voting for the Bloc. I wouldnt be totally surprised if the Bloc made a comeback. Quote "History doesn't repeat itself-at best it sometimes rhymes"-Mark Twain

WWWTT Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 The Liberals lost their support to the Conservatives and not the NDP in 2011? Yep! They obviously last some of that support to the NDP,however it is in my opinion that the vote lost to the conservative would be more inclined to go back to the liberals if they were to move more to the right. In wich case the left wingers that vacated the liberals will be happy to stick with the NDP. This scenario would give the NDP an previously unforseen opportunity to sneek up the middle to take power. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! The NDP got most of its new support from people who were previously voting for the Bloc. I wouldnt be totally surprised if the Bloc made a comeback. This is only true for the province of Quebec. The NDP MP Andrew Cash took his seat from a long time liberal riding is one example. All together there was 8 seats outside Quebec that the NDP took from the liberals/conservatives.But even more immpressive was the number of ridings where the NDP displaced the liberals for second place! This has to be very troubling for the conservatives because the liberals lost those seats with sliping support election after election. And the NDP surged ahead of the liberals in many of those ridings with growing support! Newfoundlander Posted March 17, 2012 Author Report Posted March 17, 2012 (edited) Why does Peggy Nash have such strong support? I can understand why large numbers of people would support Thomas Mulcair, Nathan Cullen and Paul Dewar but I don't understand the love for Nash. I guess a lot of it just comes from name recognition because I've seen nothing to impressive from her since this race began. Edited March 17, 2012 by Newfoundlander Quote

WLDB Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 But if they made gains in almost every province then who'd the support come from? 1 or 2 seats here and there arent much. West of Manitoba not much was gained. A few in BC, nothing in the praries. In Ontario they lost a few seats to Conservatives.
