Topaz Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 BA International which is owned by a German Company, is now closing down and laying off workers and the printing of Canadians bank notes, will be printed in Germany. What else will this government of Harper outsource? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/story/2011/12/01/ottawa-layoffs-bank-note-company.html Quote
olp1fan Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) "The introduction of polymer bank notes in Canada significantly changes the local bank note market. Given that these notes are expected to last longer, the requirement to reprint bank notes is expected to drop from 2013 onwards," it continued. Harper government isn't to blame.. nothing lasts forever just roll with the changes Edited December 14, 2011 by olp1fan Quote
The_Squid Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 It doesn't say that the new notes will be made in Germany..... Quote
sharkman Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 I think it does say, however, that just about any thread that Topaz starts is a Tory rant. Haters gonna hate. Topaz I hope your life isn't turning into some kind of bitter anti-government crusade. That would be unfortunate. Quote

Oh please Sharkman... spare us the "you're a hater" BS... it's no better than crying "racist" or "Nazi" at posters. If you want to refute the post, then do so. Calling someone a "hater" is not refuting anything that they said. Quote

I was told by someone that the bank notes are printed in Germany to save money. So I went searching and found the article above. I could say that YOU hate Haters of the Tory party in which YOU have more of a problem that you accuse me of! I don't like the way the country is going and I have the right to voice it. Merry Christmas! Quote

Sharkman, if you think what I say about the Tory government is hateful then read the following article and read the comments at the bottom. People are waking up. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/second-reading/bruce-anderson/do-conservatives-now-think-they-have-carte-blanche-on-dirty-tricks/article2274378/ Quote
sharkman Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 (edited) I must have touched a nerve. Topes, about those commenters at the bottom of the page, do they start new anti-Harper threads every day? Sure you can speak your mind, but when you sing the same song every thread you become the guy who cries wolf every time and you get tuned out. But it's a free country and you can say what you want. And so can I. Edit: But perhaps I'm being overbearing, I shouldn't judge you for trying to express yourself. Edited December 17, 2011 by sharkman Quote

sharkman Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 But in the mean time it passes on savings to the tax payer vs paper money. What's wrong with that? Quote
August1991 Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 (edited) But in the mean time it passes on savings to the tax payer vs paper money. What's wrong with that? This is the key point.Since the new polymer notes last longer, then we require fewer people to make new ones. This is a productivity gain. Incidentally, the CBC article does not say that the new polymer notes will be made in Germany. It merely says that the current German-owned company will reduce production of the old notes at its Canadian plant. The polymer used in the new Canadian notes is produced in Australia but I believe the notes themselves are printed in Canada. BTW, the Canadian mint produces coins for dozens of countries. For example, all the coins in the Barbados are Canadian made and have been for decades. Edited December 18, 2011 by August1991 Quote
