guyser Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I am betting you have heard the news that the Leafs have been sold to Bell/Rogers and Larry Tanenbaum increased his stake. Pretty huge deal all around. Be interesting to see how this plays out in the long run for numerous reasons. Rogers and Bell are competitors on TV, Cell, Internet etc. Will there be an in house agreement when it comes time to pony up a bid to the NHL for rights ? Will ojne try to be the face of the franchise over the other? One good thing is I will be able to get access to games over many portals now versus what we have. I know I know.....1967. Quote

Boges Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) And they just finally got around to firing Brian Burke! Edited January 9, 2013 by Boges Quote
Michael Hardner Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 And they finally got around to firing Brian Burke! WTF ? Why now with the season just days away ? I hate both BELL and Rogers - the two companies with perhaps the worst ability to keep customers happy, saved only by the fact that they compete with EACH OTHER. Mighty AC Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Dave Nonis will be in charge for the time being and he was responsible for the bulk of the actual player acquisition work. They're retroactively firing him for the Kessel trade. Quote
sharkman Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 WTF ? Why now with the season just days away ? It was unexpected. I mean, Burke had done a crappy job, but they've had lots of opportunity to get rid of him and didn't. In Vancouver, some speculation is that he was holding up the Luongo trade by wanting too much, and we'll see if that rumour bears out by how fast it gets done now(or if). There is agreement that the Kessel trade hurt the team, and therefore Burke. Quote
guyser Posted January 14, 2013 Author Report Posted January 14, 2013 So, has anyone else heard about the real reason B Burke was fired? Something to do with another sportscaster (married ) and all that? Dont know if its true, but damn, sure seems plausible. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 That rumour flies around on every trade, firing... whether true or not. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
guyser Posted January 14, 2013 Author Report Posted January 14, 2013 That rumour flies around on every trade, firing... whether true or not. I am not so sure about that. The only other one I can think of was Ted Nolan w the Sabres, and considering he hasnt been hired anywhere since....maybe that was true too? Quote
Mighty AC Posted January 15, 2013 Report Posted January 15, 2013 Ted was just a coach and apparently he had some booze issues and also tried to go over the head of his GM on a dispute. He also blamed his firing on racism. Those 3 points combined make him seem pretty unstable and could have scared GMs away. Booze has never been a reason to deny jobs in sport. Boinking Hasek's wife on the othjer hand.............. Quote
Mighty AC Posted January 16, 2013 Report Posted January 16, 2013 Depends on the severity of his drinking problem, and he's just a coach. People will overlook murder if a player is talented enough, but they are a little more important and hard to acquire. I think it was an over all stability issue with Ted.
