mentalfloss Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 It's been a while since we've had a poll but the new numbers are in. Approval - 43% Disapproval - 47% For reference, the last two polls had the following results: Approval - 59% Disapproval - 41% Approval - 65% Disapproval - 35% This is the first time that disapproval of Ford's performance outweighs approval. When broken down regionally, the only section of Toronto that has an approval rating over 50% is North York. This survey was fielded using Stratcom’s Rapid Poll, an automated phone poll, from February 9th to 10th, 2012, yielding a sample of 1300 completed surveys and a margin of error of +/-2.7%. http://www.stratcom.ca/assets/Ford_Suffers_Disaffection_Poll_Feb_12_2012.pdf Quote

They will be the new hosts of NewsTalk 1010's The City starting this Sunday from 1p.m. to 3p.m. The show has become a very popular spot to discuss local politics and issues important to Torontonians. For example:The mayor killed Transit City without council approval. He then signed a private agreement with the province that exposes the city to as much as $100 million in liabilities and refused to let council vote on it — even though the agreement says he must. When council reinstated the elements of Transit City, Mayor Ford dismissed the vote as “irrelevant.” And to back up the stunning declaration, the mayor fired the head of the TTC for advocating for the council position. In essence, the mayor fired the TTC’s chief general manager, Gary Webster, for agreeing with city council. If that isn’t contempt of city council, what is? Quote

mentalfloss Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 (edited) Suck it up. Your hero is going off the rails in spectacular fashion. He'll go down in history as the worst mayor Toronto has ever had. I think most people in the core were at least competent enough to predict he would be an abject failure. It was really quite a shock, to me at least, that people would even vote for him in the first place. Nice to see the natural course of events take place so we can get a responsible lefty back in power. No amount of AM propaganda will bring him back, but I'm sure he'll try.. Black Dog Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 More on the Ford (parking) tax. Councillor Paul Ainslie, a member of the mayor’s inner circle, said everything needs to be on the table for transit construction.“I think we need have a mature conversation about how to fund that, whether it’s a casino in Scarborough, parking levies downtown or road tolls.” Ainslie envisions the levy beginning in the congested downtown core. City-owned Green P lots would not be exempt. According to the councillor, workplace tax levies have not been discussed. Wow, they really hate downtown, don't they? To be clear: the tax is a good idea, but it should apply across the city. Quote

He's a Toronto City Councillor. He was one of the guys that made up the "mighty middle" that got the budget cuts reversed and the transit city plan voted on. He even made news when Ford compared him and his associates to Stalin. He got the same radio spot as the Ford's get now on the same radio station. It's just that more people care what the Ford's say as opposed to him. Quote

mentalfloss Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 (edited) Legal experts weigh in on application to remove Mayor Rob Ford from officeIt’s a case that has legal and political minds across the province buzzing with the question: Would a judge really remove the mayor of Toronto over a few thousands dollars? “Politically would a judge want to do that? Probably not. But again, it’s your classic ‘does the law apply to everybody?’” said Ryerson University professor Mitchell Kosny. Said Peter Rosenthal, who frequently takes on pro bono cases on a matter of public interest: “In my view when there’s a case that’s as clear as this one it should be made, even if political or other considerations might lead to a judge not granting the application. “Not only as a warning to others but as a warning to Mr. Ford.” Speaking not specifically on this case, municipal lawyer Freya Kristjanson said: “I firmly believe that it doesn’t matter if it’s a mayor or someone else. The law is the law and it applies to everybody.” http://www.thestar.com/news/cityhallpolitics/article/1144654--could-mayor-rob-ford-be-removed-from-office-over-a-conflict-of-interest Edited March 14, 2012 by mentalfloss Quote
