Council defies Ford on contracting-out cleaners

http://www.thestar.com/news/cityhallpolitics/article/1160003--council-defies-ford-on-contracting-out-cleaners?bn=1

Council agreed, voting 29-12 to defy Mayor Rob Ford and seize oversight of any future contracting-out of city cleaning jobs from an internal committee of senior city staff. That overturns the long-standing practice of council voting on contracts only if they’re worth $20 million or more.

Ouch. One vote away from Ford being nothing more than a paper mayor.

Yup

Yup...

I dunno.. I think it's kinda funny. Why bother with the desperate support publicity stunt if you aren't even going to try?

It is when he has been doing a weight-loss challenge publicly.

Still it's tabloid journalism at its worst. Does anyone know what he ordered or if he had a big workout earlier in the day?

Apparently Doug Ford is the one that really kind of goaded Rob into doing this Cut the Waste challenge.

What was really unsettling about the video is the jeering of the people that took the video.

And as we know, Ford has always been a paragon of class and decorum in his dealings with his opponents...

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/toronto/mayor-fords-approval-rating-up-poll/article2408791/

Latest Poll has Ford doing better.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s approval rating is at its highest point since last June, a new poll by Forum Research Inc. has found.

The automated telephone poll of Toronto residents found that 47 per cent of those surveyed approve of the mayor’s work, up from 41 per cent last month, and an analysis of the numbers by Forum Research suggests that Mr. Ford would be the likely winner in a three-way race if an election were held today.

It goes to show that even with politicians we dislike, some segments of the population find their on-the-job performance acceptable.

There's not a single redeeming quality about Rob Ford. If Torontonians find his on-the-job performance acceptable, then they're painfully stupid.

Yeah it's not like the Ford Administration signed 3 union deals this past year avoiding major labour strife and passed the first budget since amalgamation that spent less than the year before.

Way to call the people that voted for Ford stupid though. That type of attitude will ensure he'll be elected again.

And those who elect him will still be stupid. :P

“Now, there’s two answers. It’s either there’s corruption down at City Hall or there’s major incompetence at City Hall in budgeting. How do you just find a hundred million dollars?”– Councillor Rob Ford, John Oakley show, March 2010.

Toronto’s 2011 year-end surplus is a whopping $292-million – $138-million more than city staff forecast when council signed off on this year’s contentious budget, The Globe and Mail has learned.

Those surpluses assume a booming real estate market. You can't budget assuming you'll be bailed out by real estate. That's sort of how the meltdown in 2008 got started.

I don't think the additional surplus was budgeted. I'm just crediting the revenue to Miller's tax plan.
