Shwa Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 I'm chuckling that someone would consider a man who sat in that position with those other players to be an unbiased source! Is it not perhaps possible that he might want to deliberately make Ford look bad? It might be if he had omitted to illustrate a process - a well known process - and left it at mere opinion. But the process remains a fact and his opinion of Mayor Ford is neither here nor there. I don't think you have to be of any particular ideology to see how the process works and how it is being clumsily manipulated. Quote
Boges Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 I had a lil chuckle yesterday when I hear people are going to protest the offices of KPMG. Some people need obtain lives. You dare you accept money to do an audit!!!! Quote
treehugger Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Good article on the actuals and what we are actually talking about. And seriously, former Mayor Miller must be chuckling. From $350 million surplus to $774 million deficit in one Ford year? Enjoy the chuckle... 350 million surplus my foot. With all of the crap that miller had going on the taxpayers money there is no way there was a surplus. If he is chuckling away it's because he has a loose screw, he just gave and gave to all that wanted. So many stupid things to get rid of and one of them was paying one woman to sit in a city park to look after the kids that came there to play. She got $26,000 for that a year. Sending out young people at $18.00 per hour to knock on doors to see if they had a cat or dog for licenses. The license program cost more to run then what the city is bringing in. Quote

Well, I did cite the article and now you are disputing it, so could you kindly provide some legitimate sources (and than your own vaunted opinion please) and show there wasn't a $350 million dollar surplus? What's that? You can't? Didn't think so. Quote

I guess you haven't read the papers or seen the news for the last while but city council is working now on the overspending that ocurred before Ford was mayor.Everyone was invited to city hall to give their opinions on what should take place to get rid of the debt. Shwa Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 It will all be worth it when the budget gets balanced later this year... or never. Well they have to balance the budget, I thought, by law. So what they will do is overbudget by a billion or so and then apply that to the deficit, thereby wiping the deficit out in one or two years. Pure genius if you ask me. Ford doesn't get enough credit. (well he had better hope he does with his new multi-billion dollar budget!) Quote
CPCFTW Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Pretty obvious what ford is doing. Cut revenues to get the public of board with slashing the excessive salaries and benefits of municipal employees. Then just raise taxes to balance the budget and use the surpluses from the lowered service costs toprovide goodies before the next election. I don't care as long as the city stops paying ttc token collectors 50k with pensions and subsidizing people on welfare to live in lakeside mansions. Cut all that crap, bring compensation and benefit back down to acceptable levels, then spend whatever surpluses exist on expanding services. Quote

Be pretty tough to cut TTC salaries now after having just had them declared an essential service. That's not a fight for which even Fatboy has the stomach. Also, it tickles me to see that even though the city's service review is showing the flow of gravy is barely a trickle, you fucktards are still acting like there's buckets of the stuff everywhere. CPCFTW Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) You think Ford is that clever or even capable of enacting those kinds of manuevers? You're (wet) dreaming. He was clever enough to get the largest city in Canada to elect him mayor despite a less than charming appearance and personality... so I don't see why not. Be pretty tough to cut TTC salaries now after having just had them declared an essential service. That's not a fight for which even Fatboy has the stomach. They were declared an essential service so that they can't legally strike when there are cutbacks, layoffs, etc. Also, it tickles me to see that even though the city's service review is showing the flow of gravy is barely a trickle, you fucktards are still acting like there's buckets of the stuff everywhere. The service review had nothing to do with the bloated compensation of municipal workers. Edited August 2, 2011 by CPCFTW Quote
Boges Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I heard a good point about Toronto Property taxes. The percentage maybe less than in the burbs. BUT!!!! the value of the houses are double or triple that of the burbs. So saying that a hike to property taxes is the solutions is laughable. Quote

I wouldn't be surprised at a 3% tax hike on residents and landlords though. I sure like to hear all those liberals squealing like stuck pigs (at the trough) though. It would be nice if everyone tried to face the reality of a near bankrupt city. Quote

Battletoads Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 No, he's suggesting its stupid to cut revenue when you have a deficit. Just plain moronic in fact. Oh well, you get use to it when Cons are in power. Quote "You can lead a Conservative to knowledge, but you can't make him think."
Boges Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 So the TTC is said to have spent $25,000+ on promotional material for their new subway cars. But there's no gravy at all. TORONTO - And you thought the gravy train was expensive. The TTC is spending more than $28,000 to advertise its new Toronto Rocket train to its own riders, the Sun has learned. TTC commissioner Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong shook his head at the expenditure given the budget woes facing the city and the transit authority. “These are the type of stupid spends that drive the public crazy,” Minnan-Wong told the Sun on Thursday. “In the world of ‘must have’ and ‘like to have’ this clearly falls into the category of ‘absolute waste of money’.” When the TTC may have to consider cutting service to balance its budget, spending money on ads for a new train, “sends absolutely the wrong message,” he said. TTC chairman Karen Stintz and TTC officials defended the ad campaign as money well spent. Riders crammed onto the old subway trains or lucky enough to catch the lone new Toronto Rocket train on the Yonge-University-Spadina line have no doubt noticed the ads promoting the new train put into service last month. The ad campaign spent around $25,000 on posters plastering the inside of stations and subway trains along with informational pamphlets about the new rockets. The TTC also spent $2,300 to buy 10,000 buttons showing off the front-end of the new train. pst, if people are on the subway already, they know the subway cars are new. Quote

Of course large corporations never spend advertising money targeting existing customers, on brand loyalty and on spreading the news on the 'new and improved' product line. Right? They do? Oh.... Damned TTC and their modern business practices! Quote

The money, I suppose, isn't that much, but tell that to the commuters that are under constant threat of having their services cut or fares raised. Quote
