bush_cheney2004 Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 ...conclusion: this is about 'the interests' of united states with democracy and human rights being way down on the list of interests. Sounds good to me, and was certainly good enough for Paul Martin and oil services contracts for Canadian workers. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
DogOnPorch Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 yet another quick witted porch dog comeback taken from his 'i know you are, but what i am' bag. Oh, so you ARE willing to risk your life for the West's old enemy, Syria. Make sure to post photos of your adventure. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Bonam Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 conclusion: this is about 'the interests' of united states with democracy and human rights being way down on the list of interests. And what is wrong with that? If the US is to invest its blood and money into a foreign campaign, why on Earth would you expect them to do it for no benefit to themselves? Democracy and human rights can be factors to motivate and justify a mission to some of the population, and they can be used to try to get it international support through the UN, but they are not reasons enough to pour trillions of dollars down the drain if nothing else is at stake. Syria will just have to wait its turn, until the timing and optics are right, then we can invade it too. Somehow though, I don't think you'll be any more approving of that than you have been of any of the other US military interventions. Quote
bud Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 okay. so you agree with me that democracy and human rights is nowhere near being a major reason for united states' actions or in-actions, even though it tells people otherwise. that's the point i was trying to make. whether it's okay for the u.s. to do this or not is a whole other discussion. GostHacked Posted June 14, 2011 Author Report Posted June 14, 2011 Great....did your toaster tell you who's on what side? I'd rather not be on any side. I'd rather there be no war. But it is our governments who are initiating this new war. Quote
M.Dancer Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 those are all minor points. no one cares about italy's needs. the main point which you forgot to mention is geopolitical This sort of thing confuses you don't it...
