I'll say it again, the defeat of the Bloc and Quebec backing a Federalist party is damned good news, and I think Federalists across the country should applaud this.

Now, whether the NDP can manage standing with one foot in Quebec and one in the rest of Canada better than Brian Mulroney ultimately did is an open question. They've got one kick at the can, so far as I can see, to prove that they can pull it off, so they'd better not muck it up.

The one advantage the NDP has over Mulroney imo is that they could actually make the convincing case that Quebec's social democratic, pro-union culture is in line with the NDP's broader vision for the country. IIRC, Mulroney just promised to decentralize the country.

Jim Malloway and Larry Bagnell could lose their seats because of their vote on the LGR.

Being a country boy myself, I'll be glad the Tories finally have the clout to kill it. I'm tired of being treated like Marc Lepine. Rural Canada doesn't need Toronto's gun laws.

As a fellow rural Canuck, I concur.

That's very right....that will probably be one of the first things that they do, along with crime legislation. I'm really hoping that they'll increase military spending.

I like what the Quebec commentator on CBC (I don't remember her name, but I love her) said about how Marois and the PQ convention occurred shortly before the Bloc tanked... I totally agree with her.

People keep saying that the PQ are headed for victory in the next Quebec election... I say not so fast. The NDP are going to want to restart their provincial party and could easily wipe the PQ off the map.

There's no time. The Quebec election is in 2012.

Totally agree.

Registering a gun does not stop the bullet from coming out if it is pointed at the wrong target! ;)

Crazy that the NDP has their best night ever but they lose Winnipeg North and Elmwood.

Elizabeth May leading!

I knew we could do it! It's the first time I feel that my vote has ever meant anything. Nothing like giving the middle finger to the old boys who wouldn't let her into the debate.

And on the odd occasion that she actually gets to say anything in the House, you can try to remind yourself of that.

Tonight, the cane is nowhere to be seen.

They have 104 seats of which 61 come from Quebec.

In 2008, the NDP won 36 seats outside of Quebec. In 2011, they won 43. This is not a big change.

Toronto is pissed off at this result. Listen to Jack's crowd booing at the mention of Harper.

No matter what happened, the NDP were not going to form a government. The NDP now has a chance to solidify their position rather than awkwardly trying to prop up some sort of coalition.

Obviously not all of Toronto, looking at the map of said city.

I'd say a Federalist party replacing the Bloc in Quebec is a big change.
