LOL cue the cheesy, inspirational music....

I guess you don't really pay attention to what goes on in the country or it's eaders. Do just scan the headlines of the TO star to get your info. Harper has changed alot since he 1st came into power and for the better, pay attention to what goes on and you will be better informed to make a proper decision.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

What a great post. He is a "better man"... nothing says HOW he is a better man... there are no ways to measure such a thing... Has he stopped beating his wife? Become a better singer? Slowed down the boozing? What???

But if anyone dares to disagree then they must read the Toronto Star (which I have never read, other than if someone else at this forum linked to an article there) and they don't pay attention to Harper the Man. LOL

I don't really look at The Man, but the man's policies and how the PM runs the government. Both of which, Harper receives a failing grade. He has squandered our budget surpluses... is about to waste un-documented billions on unnecessary jets... his party committed election fraud...

And here's a good one:

Gary Lunn (MP) hires Harper's aide and buddy Bruce Carson's hooker girlfriend's niece as a ministerial staffer. This hooker and girlfriend of Carson was convicted of fraud in the USA and deported back to Canada. Harper had no issues with Bruce Carson's previous five convictions for fraud until he got caught again.

You are the company you keep.

That fear is based in reality.

I thought it was based in a smug sense of moral righteousness...

It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy

If the NDP topples the Bloc in Quebec, what we'll see is a stronger Confederation, a helluva stronger one than the anti-Quebec rhetoric we saw coming out of the Tories in 2008.

I guess I must have been asleep that year. Could you remind me?

More desperate crawling into the gutter to fling out laughable, cheap muck. An ex-aide's girlfriend's niece worked for an MP?

How's about Jean Chretien's son was a brutal rapist? Or does that not count?

How about Jean Chretien ordered the Business Development Bank of Canada to 'loan" his business partner, an ex-con, $250,000 of taxpayers funds, which was never paid back, and said ex-con was later investigated for arson?

How about Paul Martin Junior abolished the Ports Police, thus clearing the way for organized crime to control Canadian ports. And then one of his shipping companies got caught smuggling in a massive haul of cocaine?

No, of course not.

Nice try at the deflection. Chretien and Martin are not running for PM, if you hadn't noticed....

However, Chretien was a scumbag and so was Paul Martin! You won't get any arguments about that from me.... Past transgressions by similar dirtbags do not give the current PM a free ride because perhaps he isn't as big of a dirtbag as those guys.... what's a bit of fraud among friends? What's a bit of nepotism with your buddy's hooker girlfriend's niece? Minor complaints, eh?

I wouldn't even say they qualified as minor. I'd say petty, but even that is probably an exaggeration.

Criminal fraud = petty.

Hooker girlfriends nieces working for government when they have no qualifications to do so whatsoever = petty.

Fair enough. Everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how ridiculous or ill-informed.

Okay, let's talk about "ill informed". What do you actually know about the niece and her qualifications? What do you know about the qualifications for the job? What do you know about how she was hired?

As a business owner I have to say the numbers scare the hell out of me. If the ndp end up in a true coalition with Layton at the head, which one of the poles was showing today our country is screwed. Look at the employment numbers, 3.5 million public sector employees vs. 10.9 million private sector employees am I the only one that sees that the overhead is way to high for the production?!?!. Increased spending on social programs means increased cost through an increase bureaucracy. Corporate tax hikes means jobs lost which means less money to pay into social programs which means increasing taxes again. The U.S is already showing heavy job losses as corporations pull out for greener pastures in Sweden and Ireland and the like thanks to the high corporate taxes. Canadians have started to lean heavily on the government for everything from child care to retirement. The system is near the breaking point and will only get worse if the path is not continued as planned by not only Harper but the previous Liberal government as well. Left wing politics has no place at the federal table in my view. There is too much red tape and bs in the way of the money and the cause that defeats the purpose for what its intended. And to whoever threw out the line that Harper hasn't earned the right to a majority government, what the hell are you smoking. Harper is the reason the minority goverment has worked at all. We have weathered a global recession at or near the top of the pack for since the whole thing started and that is the result of not only the minority government he led but the past government policies as well all of which you would destroy with all the left wing bs. Smilin Jack should stick to used car sales and leave governance to those with some common sense.

edit: forgot to throw out some comment about nanny states and people who think the government should baby sit them through there day to day lives.

PIK don't you know anything?

Jack is going to pay for all his promises with the magic fairy NDP wand and fairy dust.

Why hell if it worked for Mike Harris and Harper why not the NDP?

Or wait, maybe only Harper knows how to use a magic fairy wand!

Maybe he will teach Jack how to use it.

Girouard [the person who did the hiring] confirmed, in fact, that Khan had no particular experience or skills relevant to the job and no background with the party.

Looks like the partisan hacks are out on the message boards in full force this week.

Is this a dig at me? According to the left its the conservatives who are bringing the negative into politics. As someone self employed I spend my time and money creating jobs and working 80hour weeks to keep paying all the bs fees and huge overhead brought on by government waste and red tape.

hahaha wow are you still in high school? I am who I am. I have leaned to the right since I was old enough to vote which would be 20 years now. I am proud of being self reliant and not looking to government for handouts. Why someone stating what is obvious to most on the right is just tory stereotypes is ignorant. I vote like I do because big government and big social programs dont work. Ignore all the evidence in the world that shows just that and spout hate to defend your beliefs, its what our government has degraded to. All 4 active federal parties are a joke right now and as far as I am concerned Harper getting a majority and hopefully implementing voter representation by population will kill the Bloc and hopefully bring back some stability to the system and some truly good people to the forefront of the political system. Right now Harper is the best of the bad so I vote for my beliefs because its the only way to vote. He is not the best prime minister we have had by any means but he is the best option out of whats available bar none and another minority government or even worse a coalition on the left will just damage the country.

Latest CTV news headline - "Layton willing to reopen Constitution, but not right away:. That's your guy. Way to go. Sort of soon, or maybe later, or whenever????/??

The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.

I am willing to bet that the NDP start to stutter now because I dont think anyone, Jack Layton included ever imagined the numbers being seen right now. Whatever your political stripe, in my humble opinion Jack is the only leader that has carried himself well in the campaign. As a conservative I find it frustrating that only in the last couple of weeks have we heard anything but attack ads. I feel that a clear open message on policy would have won a solid majority for the tories or at least created a lively debate on policy but this whole campaign has been a sad joke of one liners and half truths. Whoever is running the campaign needs to find a new job. Quite frankly if Harper doesnt get a majority I hope he quits so we can try for better leadership of which Peter Mckay would have been a much better choice to me.

You're preaching to the choir if that post was directed at me. I'm a small "c" conservative and tend to stay with the Conservatives, but several of Harper's personal issues disgust me. Yes, can we get rid of him and get Peter McKay in without giving Jack or Iggy a short stint to screw us?

It doesn't strike me that the Tories are going to have the opportunity. Either Harper is going to learn to govern in a very different House or he'll be turfed by Parliament.

You thought wrong, I'm pretty sure there's a righteous sense of discontent involved however, pretty deep too in a lot of people I suspect.
