Where is all the money going to come from for all his promises? Where are the jobs going to come from when the corporations leave when he raises the tax to 19or so %. Owners do not take pay cuts, they just pass it on to the consumer. Do people here understand what cap and trade(carbon tax) will do, do you not think energy and hydro and food is expensive enough. Can the people of this country hold on while we experiment with a socialist goverment, that has bankirupt ONT and BC, rememeber bob rae will have a big part to play in a NDP/LIB goverment.Sure jack is a nice guy ,butr to give him the power to do what he wants, will kill this country so fast and even his family unification plan will be the final nail in the health care coffin. Can everyone here afford to pay more for health care for immigrant's parents and grand parents that are going to come here and have ,to jump right into our health care system, ahead of canadians that have worked hard and long?

I'd suggest a tax on pot, not to mention the peace dividend realized by ending the war against it.

The conservative mindset worldwide is based on fear.

Stewed in it is more like it.

Where is the money coming from for all the things the Conservatives are buying, while slashing taxes? It's unsustainable.

Why do you think that raising the corporate taxes to 2006 levels will be devastating? They will still be lower than the taxes paid in the US. Moreover, what makes you think cutting taxes created jobs anyway? Likewise, corporate taxes are not necessarily passed on to the consumer. It depends on the price elasticity of demand on the product.

Why shouldn't our shared environment have a cost for its degradation? It is a fact that carbon emissions at least partially contribute to global climate change. It is a greenhouse gas, that's not even up for debate. If businesses only make decisions based on economic costs, why shouldn't we put an economic cost on our shared habitat? Depleting it should have a cost. It's not unlimited. Right now companies are allowed to destroy our habitat for free.

You raise a point that shouldn't be just shoved aside when it comes to bringing more aging parents into the country. There is a cost associated with doing this because they will need more medical assistance as they age. You are absolutely correct. However, telling people they cannot be with their family because it costs too much is simply put, inhumane. If they're good enough to be here, working and productive, then we ought to consider re-uniting them with their family. Feel free to disagree, and I'm sure you will, but I find it to be in bad taste that you would demand skilled immigrants for their labour, yet refuse them the opportunity to remain with their families. Give us what we want and stfu. Your parents can't come with you. For me, this is a cost worth paying to attract the skilled and professional labour that we seem to be looking for.

How is it any different that the fear of the Harper majority that NDP types have been snivelling about for years?

That fear is based in reality.

Everyone should toad, so tell me where is the money going to come from? The world these people want to live in does not exist NOR WILL IT EVER. I can't afford to wait out this experiment, either It's a CON majority, or the end of confederation. But I might have jumped the gun, I just read something that jack has said he can't afford to do what he has promised, I will try and find a link.

That fear is based in reality.
The reality is Jack cannot pay for his promises but given his total lack of respect for business and job creation he will likely raise taxes or run deficit to pay for them. That is reality.

What an absurd and moronic statement. Is this the new Tory line, that only they can save Confederation? Last time I checked it was the damned Tories who almost tore it to pieces.

If the NDP topples the Bloc in Quebec, what we'll see is a stronger Confederation, a helluva stronger one than the anti-Quebec rhetoric we saw coming out of the Tories in 2008.

But I might have jumped the gun, I just read something that jack has said he can't afford to do what he has promised, I will try and find a link.

Look, if he does manage to form a government (which I think is an outside possibility), it's going to have to be with the support of some substantial portion of the House, so he's not going to be able to make much of it come true. All the platforms are nonsense, because the likelihood of anyone forming a majority is a distant possibility.

But if we do assume that the Tories will get another minority (and I think a betting man would go for that), then the logical thing for Harper to do to save his own skin is to bring someone in, and the best party, particularly if they gain seats in Quebec, would be the NDP, which to my mind would strengthen Confederation.

The reality is that Layton has almost no chance of forming a government, but if he did, he'd have to get everything past Parliament so any unaffordable policies that did squeak through would have to have a lot of other affirmative votes than just the NDP.

Not absurd at all toad, the man has no idea how to run a country, he has promised the world to people he can't deliver. He will break this countyry in two, and if we have a coalition of him and the liberals, kiss the west goodbye. You just don't understand this country at all or what will happen with them 2 at the helm, there will be no peace ,but infighting and finger pointing and back room deals to keep it alive. A con majority is the only way for some peace and hopefully prosperity in the next 4 years.

I've come up with a theory. The amount of capitalized letters, bolding and large fonts ina post is inversely proportional to the poster's intelligence. Am I onto something here?

Before every election, I say, the seating government has to open the books and tells Canadians exactly the good and the bad of it. I also, think any reports due, like the G20 summit, should be open to Canadians to see BEFORE an election. Perhaps this will keep the ruling government in check. This would help out the other parties know if they can make promises.

Not sure... I thought pot was $80B in Canada... maybe not.

People who support the NDP do not pay taxes and are uneducated regarded our economy and the implications of raising corporate taxes.

The NDP is a great party when you are living on a fixed income from the gov't and want to sponsor in your relatives from another country so we can pay for their triple bypass surgery.

The NDP would be a true disaster for Canada. It might seem great at first having all these 'new ideas' spit about. But man oh man in 5-10 years I assure you guys we'd be in second world status. We literally have rolling blackouts as Jack has said he doesn't want new power generation, yet wants a million immigrants coming in each year.

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. This was really a brownshirt style censorship from a moderator on mapleleafweb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1oGB-BKdZg---

I wouldn't go that far, but perhaps those who think choosing and defending-to-the-death a particular party ideology (as the party tells them to) are not exercising the full extent of their democratic responsibility.

As a pragmatist I understand that the strength of our democracy is in it's checks and balances that limit partisan power. The autocratic business model does not work for democracy, nor does a pure socialist model nor a crony-based free for all, imo. It's the responsibility of Canadians to consider the parties' contributions and sustain the balance that works for us.

In my view, when parties use fear tactics to try to control people's votes they are underestimating the intelligence of Canadians and our understanding of democracy. There is no easy answer in democracy, no 'silver bullet/one size fits all forever and ever' solution. It's slow and messy and sustaining it's balance is ultimately not the responsibility of politicians but of all Canadians.

I don't want Harper having a majority. He doesn't deserve it, nor has he earned it. I have no problem with him being hemmed in with a minority. He has never shown to me that he should be trusted, so I'll be voting in favor a minority government, and all the claims that Harper's the only man for the job only confirm how unfit he and his supporters are for that.

Duceppe regulary polls very well as a leader inside and outside Quebec. How woul you feel about him as PM? He is one of three candidates for the job, and might make an excellent compromise a la Dion.

The government should do something.

Apart from the fact that the Bloc will not win enough seats to contemplate it, I have a hard time believing Duceppe would take it in the very unlikely event that the Governor General asked him to.

LOL You sound like iggy. He has earned it, he has built the party from scratch, his policies have help keep the country going thru tough times.( You no longer can say it was chretien or martin ,to much time has passed)Our standing in the world is better then is has been in along time, bending over all the time is not good for the country. I was glad to see harper have a back bone. So much more but I have to leave for a bit.Harper has grown as a man and a leader, he is not the hard ass he once was, and the steady BS from the media and all the elections he has had to fight, and still did great for the country, he has earned it and has every right to.
