Mr.Canada Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 NDP Leader Jack Layton accused his Liberal counterpart Michael Ignatieff of being absent for 70 per cent of votes in the House of Commons. Source This man needs to learn how to be a MP before he thinks he can be a PM. The arrogance of the Liberals is still alive and well. Jack Layton is present for almost every vote and this man has had cancer and a hip replacement. Ignatiev's record doesn't look good in this light. "Most Canadians, if they don't show up for work, they don't get a promotion," Layton said during the debate. Source same as above This was a perfect follow up. Layton totally thrashed this wannabe PM, elitest Harvard snob. Really put him in his place. Well done Jack. Ignatiev was totally crushed by this comment and had no retort. How can trhis man want to be PM when he;s only present for 30% of the votes? He clearly isn't earning his money, in fact he's stealing from the Canadian people by acting in this manner. CBC said after the debate that Jack Layton's # was incorrect. Iggy was absent for like 55% i believe they said. Still a horrid number. Mr.Canada Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 Ignatieff voted in only 69 of the 204 recorded votes in the 40th Parliament, 3rd Session, and was absent 135 times, according to "How'd They Vote" a website that calls itself a "resource for political accountability." He owns the worst record among the leaders of the four major parties and among all 305 current Members of Parliament. Source His record is abysmal. Topaz Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Wasn't Harper's something like 58%, anyone know the Bloc? Some of those bills, the different MPS stay away so they wouldn't bring the Tories and create the ever living problem of another election. Since Michael was new to politics , he HAD to out there and let voters get to know him and for Michael to know what the voters expected from a government. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 His record is abysmal. According your source, Iggy absent for 66% of votes. Incredible. In Harper's defense, he is the PM, and must do some travel overseas and whatnot, so him missing a few votes is understandable. But still. What are we paying these guys for? Not very much of a difference between the two considering Iggy was there 30% of the time. Quote

Mr.Canada Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) My point was that he has an excuse for missing more votes than others. Exactly right smallc. The PM has to meet with foreign leaders go on trade missions and whatever else, no one is seriously arguing him on this. What is Ignatieff's excuse? His sole priority is to be critical of the sitting government. He's not really doing his job if he's absent 70% of the time. This is what is leading me to believe that Layton would make a much better leader of Opposition. At least he's in the House. The PM and his government should be given a hard time and I think Layton would do a much better job of this.
