Wow a die hard conservative, host of CTV's powerplay has recognized Laytons growing momentum.

Is this bigger than what we see on the surface? Will we be suprised when the seats are tallied May 3rd?

Or his goal in making this comment to further divide Harpers opposition?

It doesn't matter we are at the Tipping point. Once the NDP hits 19-20% the vote can't be split any further this is something Liberals wont tell you. The Liberals and the NDP might flip a couple seats or the Liberals might lose some because of vote splitting while the NDP will pick up a Con seat somewhere else. Fact is Harper wont win a Majority with 36-38% of the vote and the vote can't be split any further. So for all those Liberals scared of vote splitting join team NDP because this mountain aint moving to mohammed this time.

The CPC must be loving this. Thems got a decent shot at a majority, despite what he polls say. I hope the NDP become the opposition.

The election returns should be pretty interesting to watch.

One of Chretien's majorities came with just 38% of the popular vote, I believe, thanks to heavily split vote between Reform/Alliance and Progressive Conservatives.

And Harper's 36% would go a lot farther if the Liberals and NDP split the vote 25%/25% than it would if they split it 30%/20%. Anticipate heavy attacks from Liberals warning people that voting NDP will help Harper get a majority.

Don martin is not a Conservative of any kind. He has always had a hate on for the CPC and Harper in particular.

I'm not sure what he is, but he certainly hates Harper.

That's Duceppe's strategy in Quebec. "Must vote Bloc to prevent Harper majority."

Or True Scotsmen...

Well maybe just all the fiscal conservatives.

I can see the wing nuts of the right, Christian Conservatives and other social conservatives, supporting Harper.

I've been a Conservative for years. Party member, once a delegate. Quit the party when Mulroney took the reins. I returned after he left. I cannot abide Harper.

On a day when the New Democrats are riding high in national public-opinion polls, a new survey suggests that NDP Leader Jack Layton is entrenching himself as a viable leader in the minds of Canadians.

The survey of 400 Canadians conducted Sunday by Nanos Research as part of a daily rolling poll suggests voters’ appreciation for Mr. Layton’s leadership skills rose slightly from the day before to 58.1 on the polling company’s index.

At the same time, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff’s numbers took a dive from 51.9 to 40.5.

I rest my case.

But it depends on the regional breakdown, right? How many ridings are there were a Lib/NDP split will let the CPC candidate win? Maybe in BC?

It really doesn't. Once the NDP moves to 25% they start sweeping Cons off the map west of Ontario. So for every seat it costs a Lib against a Con the NDP picks one up. Tooclosetocall did a projection on it. Strategic voting after a party crosses 20% is pointless.
