nittanylionstorm07 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Pah! That's nothing. Did I mention my mountain fortress getaway in the Hindu Kush and rocket ship, and condoms custom-made by Boeing? I live in a mansion in Yellowknife, and I own a large mine near a very big lake! Quote
wyly Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 (edited) Well, I just got tired of seeing posts claiming that 65% of the electorate hate Harper. That figure apparently comes from just adding up the support percentages of the other parties. I thought that if that's true then one could make a similar statement about Jack. it's a fair comment but there is a difference, there is only one right of center party(30-35%)and four left of center (65-70%), the four on the left just can't get on the same page but no matter what they will not vote for Harper... Guest Derek L Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Somewhere between Franco and Mussolini, I think. I was thinking more along the lines of a Dixiecrat like Gov. Wallace or Leander Perez, guess we'll have to agree to disagree Quote

Guest Derek L Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Yeah because he doesn't have to pay for the mess that the NDP would cause. It's my household that would get taxed like no tommorow, my wife loser her job, myself not getting contracts, and then losing our home and lifestyle all because of Jack's fantasies and his pot smoking MP's: You do know Ron Paul is in favor of softning of marijuana laws right? Everybody's has their lunatic fringe. this demonstrates a problem with the FPTP system too few political parties, the extreme hardcore fanatics have no where to go so they remain out of sight hidden in bigger parties...in countries with PR systems they have representation in their own parties, you can see exactly who they are and what they represent...in our system we can never be sure the person we're voting for doesn't have some wacko agenda... wyly Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 (edited) It looks like the surge has stopped. it's done that before...statistics are never in a straight line...then there's the statistical error that can range from 1.8 to as high as 6...another pollster will report something different...and poll results always lag... nittanylionstorm07 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 It looks like the surge has stopped. One poll does not a trend make. Still within margin of error. Plus, you need to look into the numbers to figure out where that comes from. Here's where the NDP support dropped from the Apr 27 poll: Atlantic Canada: NDP lost 2.0%, but went from second to 1st. Cons gained 4.0%, Liberals lost 2.9% Ontario: NDP lost 1.6%... Libs lost 0.6%, Cons gained 1.9% Alberta: NDP lost 1.1%... Libs lost 1.0%, Cons lost 0.4% Everywhere else, the NDP either stayed steady or gained... including an impressive 3.3% gain in Sask/Man. Quote

Harry Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 (edited) Gotta wonder why Harper forced an election on us instead of working together with the other political leaders? Now Harper is paying the price for his lack of cooperation in a, can Harper spell, M-I-N-O-R-I-T-Y government. Harper has now wasted $300 million of Canadians hard earned money for this unnecessary election. Harris Decima Cons - 35% NDP - 30% Libs - 22% Bloc - NDP blow past Liberals, close on Tories: The Canadian Press Harris-Decima pollA new poll suggests the high-flying NDP have indeed soared past the Liberals and closed in on the Conservatives. The Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey puts Jack Layton's party solidly in second place, just five percentage points behind the Tories. The Conservatives are at 35 per cent support nationally, with the NDP at 30 per cent and the Liberals at 22 per cent. The results indicate the New Democrats have doubled their support since the campaign began late last month — thanks mainly to huge gains among Quebecers and women voters. The poll has the NDP with a 20-point lead over the Bloc Quebecois — 42 per cent to 22 per cent — and leading the Conservatives by one point among female respondents. It also suggests significant gains in B.C., where the NDP is two points behind the Tories and 21 points ahead of the Liberals. The key battleground of Ontario remains a rare bright spot for the Liberals. Michael Ignatieff's party led there, supported by 34 per cent of respondents compared with 33 per cent for the Tories and 25 for the NDP. http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5hsWkA-G00t8LMmEAdN4TiYYEYGfA?docId=6695426 Edited April 28, 2011 by Harry Quote

cybercoma Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 But the PC voters still view themselves as largely right wing. If it was the Liberals surging I would say the PC base was mid twenties. With the NDP, I think the best they can reduce the Conservatives to is around 30%. It comes down to this for many Conservatives that I have talked to. Stephen Harper has not been able to make a minority government work. We've had 4 elections in 7 years. Although it is the other parties taking them down, enough is enough. The Conservatives need a leader that can work with the other parties to get their agenda through in a minority setting. Stephen Harper is not going to be able to deliver that. Jack Layton has been fighting to have his agenda put into bills and budgets forever. He has worked from a minority position all of his political career and has done well for himsef and his party's policies. Jack Layton is the right leader at the right time now. He won't possibly get a majority, so Canada will still be balanced by the Conservatives. However, Jack Layton is the one that can make a minority government work. He's the only leader with the experience, openness and will to build bridges. Quote
