Don't you mean riding his ski doo off into the sunset?

I stopped voting Reform/CA when Day was elected. Even before the full weight of the fact that he was a religious nut came to light, the guy was clearly a few slices short of a loaf. I honestly believe that Manning was close to a breakthrough in Ontario, and he was literally tossed like yesterday's trash because he had had to do what all politicians who want to put forward any part of their agenda must do; compromise. I don't know about you, but a lot of Reformers seemed to have got this strange notion in their head that they could get everything they wanted, that it was Manning who was preventing it. It demonstrates the key flaw in grassroots organizations, there is a severe detachment from reality, and that pretty much describes Stockboy Day in a nutshell; a complete disassociation from reality.

As much as I agree with this, recently he's been one of Harper's strongest cabinet ministers. He did his job and didn't really cause any scandals. I'm curious as to who they think they can replace him with.

From what I understand Stockwell Day is a Pro-Life activist. Perhaps he'll devote his time to this. Being out of politics, he need not walk on eggshells anymore.

Could be Harper has run out of people to send to the senate and with 2 senators on their way to jail for at least a year, maybe Day will end up a senator and not really gone. I wonder what McKay will do, stay or leave?

I could see him being appointed as a senator for sure.

He won't use Liberal senators.

We see so much through the same eyes, Bill- all except the part where, even though the utter abandonment of those democratic principles and those principles of honour and decency was unforgiveable, you forgave them!

*sigh*

Forgave who, Molly? In politics, NEVER forgive and NEVER forget! B)

I've been keeping a list of what parties and politicians have done both good and bad, all my life. As I keep saying, when it comes time to vote it's a question of who smells the least, or more succinctly, who has pissed me off a bit less than the other guys!

After Day fell I felt a bit better with Harper at the reins. That is, until he merged with the PCs. I didn't see the need for it. The PCs were almost gone. Another election or two and they likely would have been dead and buried. What was the rush? Everyone seemed to feel it was just a numbers game. Add the PC and Reform vote together and you could knock out the Liberals. I thought that was just too shallow a premise to be believed. Not everyone would stick with the new combined party. History shows I was right. Even with a huge Liberal scandal all the new Tories could do was form minorities.

Then Harper decided to abandon virtually every Reform party plank and turn the party over to the old PC bunch. He even tried to cozy up to Mulroney, his former hated enemy!

Look how well THAT turned out!

So I am FAR from having forgiven those involved from those times! It's just that there's no one else for me to vote for!

Give me a choice I LIKE and I'll drop the Tories faster than raw hamburger left out in the sun all day!

Point of order; it was a Sea-Doo.

Excellent thoughts.

When I was younger I remembered him being the guy who (while Treasurer of Alberta) yanked his sons out of school and railed publicly against the evils of sex-education in school.

When I heard that he had become the new leader of a federal party, I was just plain worried.

Good. The fewer politicians who believe the earth is 5000 years old the better.

Who cares what he believes, is that any worse than the beliefs of our practicing Catholic PMs - really - transubstantiation, miracle virgin birth, young-earth beliefs, resurrections from death yadda yadda - maybe the fewer politicians who believe in that weird dogma the better !

As a general rule, Catholics in the last couple of centuries have been considerably less anti-reason and anti-science than many streams of Evangelicalism. It isn't that Day believes silly things, it's that he believes silly things that are so blatantly wrong on even the most cursory level that he made a fool of his party.

Why would you assume that any of Day's policies would have reduced pregnancy in schools?

Birth control reduces pregnancies among teenagers, not nonsensical abstinence programs and Bible thumping.

Well.... maybe if they thumped the bible instead, there would be fewer pregnancies

I guess so.(good one)

The higher the religious element in an area, the higher the teenage pregnancies. Kinda weird....

Perception and IMO a conflict of interest, as a school trustee his loyalty should be to the children and their best interests, that's my opinion.

Okay, but you haven't offered up any logical reason why his work as a defense attorney works against children's best interests.

It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy

That the hope of a federal alternative to the Liberals would be permanently destroyed by the selection of such an imbecile as leader.

In my opinion, probably poison to both you and people like Day, both are needed. Sex should go at least with love if not marriage. Yes, human nature, sex will happen when people are unprepared financially and/or emotionally for parenting. Thus I favor birth control and in some cases abortion.

But Day's prescriptions are needed as well.

  • Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone."
  • Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds.
  • Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location?
  • The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

Sex will happen because, well, teenagers are horny creatures governed as much, if not more, by their hormones than by their brains. Repeat that to yourself. They will have sex... they will have sex... they will have sex...

If two thousands of teaching that premarital sex was a path to Hell couldn't compel teenagers to stop before they reached third base, then I'll tell you right now that abstinence education and idealized notions of perfect relationships won't either. The whole point of sex education is to give practical information with the worst case scenario; that a goodly portion of the kids giggling at pictures of genitalia will probably end up using them before they fall in love and show up at the chapel.

Sounds like basically we agree even if our rhetoric, owing perhaps to linguistic issues on my part, is different.

I know this will probably get me the wrong tag.

But the solution just might be nudism.

You know having youth walk around naked and cut off the genitals or kill anyone that abuses the situation

Nudists can respect the body and see it as "part of nature" a birthday suit. Rather than an object of sex.

It is only sinful perverts who turn nakedness into an object of sexual desire.

Once we are more comfortable with everyone naked, sexual urges can be reduced.

Its not like animals have sex all the time, and they are naked.

Also must make sure the videos and audio of live caststration and mutilations is broadcast on TV with. I know it may seem like overkill to torture and mutilate people and broadcast it everywhere but this is an opinion, not reality.

THIS SINNER THOUGHT OF SEX.

(or atleast you could spoof it and just move people to the arctic never to be seen of again - NAKED.)

Cryogenicists would also have a steady supply of frozen bodies to conduct experiments.

Ok---not an objective truism, but ok--but there's approximately zero place in schools for teaching such a thing.

No, it is genetics. You're right that nudism would mean we didn't get aroused every time we saw a naked body...but we will always, very naturally , sometimes be aroused by a naked body. Fortunately.

Its not like animals have sex all the time, and they are naked.

:)

But most animals have seasonal sex drives. Human beings do not. That's not behaviourism on our part, it's innate.
