Bonam Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Honestly, if the Liberals had been in power all this time, they'd quite possibly be following through with the F-35 program just the same as the Conservatives are. The main reason they are opposing it now is because everything is a partisan issue right now, if the cons are for it, the libs are against it, period. Doesn't matter whether it makes sense or not, whether it would normally be something that the liberals would do themselves or not. All that matters to them is opposing the conservatives on everything and scoring political points. And of course the same would be true vice versa (I remember thinking the same of Harper when he was in opposition). That's just the reality of our system. It's never about the issues, it's always about the politics. Quote

Here are the reasons in black and white from last October why the Liberals are questioning this purchase and they are the same reasons I extensively outlined on the other thread about this... http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=18065&view=findpost&p=630335 (btw - can the two threads be COMBINED - they really should be) Quote There are none so blind, deaf and dumb as those that fail to recognize, understand, and promote TRUTH...- GWiz

wyly Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Why are the Liberals so set against Canada upgrading her defence forces? The NDP we understand, given they have always been anti-military. Do the Liberals want this country to fall behind in defence? Do they honestly think Canada is safe from any attack? They opposed a naval upgrade. They opposed new helicopters. They sent troops to Afghanistan, then blame the Harper administration for the troops being there. Why do the Liberals hate the military? Canada has a proud military history. The Canadians were the most feared troops on the Western Front in WW I. The Germans dreaded meeting the Canadians after D-Day in WW II (they ran away from Dieppe as the Canadians closed in in 1944). Why do the Liberals want to destroy something of pride to Canada? that was an ill informed rant...your knowledge of hisory sucks so every opinion linked to it becomes pretty much worthless... Topaz Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 What are the Tories SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO agaisnt open tender? There is time to open it up and make sure the F-35 is the right one for Canada. The Tories keep saying about the military heads wanting the F-35 but the retired generals have a connection with the US company and stand to make money. There's more going on than just buying new jet fighters. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Open tender for what? The F-35 is only built by one supplier! Gosh, I am so sorry I missed this circus the first time around with the procurement of CF-188's. Must have been just as much fun. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Hard decisions were made and we ended up with a pretty good aircraft... Except for the "ad on benefits" that Moroney sent to Quebec instead of Manitoba where the infrastructure was already in place costing Canadians MILLIONS... Then Canada dropped the ball a bit by not keeping it up to "specs" so to speak when it counted... But you know all that in spades and are just TROLLING again, eh... Been there done that on the other thread, why aren't they COMBINED yet? Quote There are none so blind, deaf and dumb as those that fail to recognize, understand, and promote TRUTH...- GWiz

Don't worry...Canada finally got around to upgrading all those obsolete F-18 A/B's....only about 15 years too late. This soap opera never ends. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Yeah, we know, the largest country for military weapons good old US, BUT there are more companies that do build and we need to make sure the more expensive F-35 is the one. I know your country NEEDS the money but any government that knows what it is doing would have an open bid not make F-35 a expensive charity case. Quote
