Topaz Posted January 24, 2011 Author Report Posted January 24, 2011 Dancer, unless you can afford products that only the well to do can afford then maybe it would be hard to believe the imports from China. You go to any department store, except high priced, and maybe even then, and you will find most are made in China. I haven't seen the label, made in Canada or the US for a long time. In the 1950's, everthing you could want for your home was made in Ontario, now they are made in China, mexico, but not here. Quote

Topaz, unless you stop listening to your talking appliances and start actually researching your posts you will be hard to believe. You go to any department store, and even the expensive toasters don't talk. I haven't seen any labels, Might Talk in a long time. In the 1950s, the only talking applianances you found were made in Japan, or Germany... That being said, another ion a long line of blatherskite with not a shred of veracity. Well done Topaz. Bonam Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 It's easy enough to avoid food made in China. Most fresh produce and meat does not come from there for one. Computer components and electronics are made in a wide range of countries, including many Asian countries besides China. Most "big ticket" items can be googled and their origin determined. For example, for my outdoor gear/clothing, I tend to only buy items made in Western countries. The information really isn't that hard to find. I see labels like "made in Italy", "made in Germany", "made in the USA", "made in Canada", etc, all the time. Yeah if all you want is the cheapest sh*t on the block then more of it will be made in China. That's what China is good for. Hurray for them. Quote
The_Squid Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 My shoes are Italian and American... Hey, I'm with you.... if you are willing to pay a lot more for shoes, you can find them made outside of China. My hiking boots are made in USA. SO are my dressy shoes and my casual shoes are Aussie. But I have to search high and low to find them and they are much more expensive, in general. $200 sneakers or dress shoes will be made in China. $20 sneakers will be made in China. It's pathetic. Guest TrueMetis Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 My belts are made in Canada. The rest of my clothes tend to be made in South American, or other Asian countries, same goes for my electronics. You can avoid China pretty easily if you want, it gets harder to just buy from Canada. Quote

This involves leaving the house so some may not be able to go and see for themselves. Morris posted the 11% vs 50% number, I believe, for China vs US imports. 11% is MANY. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Yes in means Harry Rosen doesn't sell Chinese formal shirts...neither does the Bay, Freeman Formals, Stollery's or Tip Top....but I was able to find a reasonable Korean shirt that fit the ticket at Moores.
