Topaz Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 If the weather around the world is any indication of what is to come in 2011, I rather stay at Dec.31 2010. I do wish all of you here on the forum a Happy New Year and hope maybe one of us could be a winner at Max Lotto. Quote

August1991 Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 (edited) Weather? The bigger question is whether anglophones will say "two thousand eleven" or "twenty eleven". It seems to me that the latter is now thankfully dominant. (In French and Russian, it has always been the equivalent of "two thousand eleven".) ----- Happy New Year to all. kimmy Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Weather? The bigger question is whether anglophones will say "two thousand eleven" or "twenty eleven". It seems to me that the latter is now thankfully dominant. People have long been accustomed to the latter (did you ever hear anybody refer to the year 1997 as "one thousand nine hundred and ninety seven"?) The years 2000 to 2009 were awkward, because "twenty-nine" no longer worked. "Twenty-oh-nine" and "twenty-aught-nine" were used by some, but never caught on, probably because they're both dreadful, and also because neither offered any economy over "two thousand nine". Happily, "twenty-ten" and "twenty eleven" roll off the tongue as easily as the "nineteen" years did, and I am sure that within a short time, everybody who got used to saying "two thousand- ..." will have returned to "twenty-...." Happy New Year to all. And to you. God bless us everyone. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Topaz Posted January 2, 2011 Author Report Posted January 2, 2011 Well we know now that happy 50 Mil winner lives in Toronto and I did win my bet. I said if someone won in Ontario than they live within the Toronto area. For some reason not too many people win south of London On. The ones that have, have bought the ticket in TO or near there.
