I want honesty. I want an end to the phony self-righteousness and indignation, to the nitpicking stupidity and one-upmanship that often seems like a bunch of rival high school cliques trying to put each other down and make each other look bad. I want an attempt to work together for the good of the country.

Yeah, good luck on that one.

I want something innovative, something new, something that acknowledges we have problems and doesn't postpone the solution for the next guy to come in. Ie, something new for health care, for elderly care. A solution for our endless, decades old immigration and refugee mess.

I want innovation in taxes. How about an end to payroll taxes? Do you have any idea how much time and trouble and money that would save business? How about special tax breaks for manufacturing - that dying industry? How about taxes on non-essential items in order to lower taxes on essential items?

How about a national program to rebuild the railway for passenger traffic? High speed rail anyone? How about a national highways and bridges program?

How about finally addressing our ridiculous legal system which drains away so much time and money to little purpose? Why does it take six or seven years to deport an illegal immigrant? Why does it take a year and a half to sentence a mugger or drug dealer? Why should even a simple, basic dispute cost tens of thousands of dollars to resolve?

And why are we content with all that?

Harper. Show some spine. People admire a tough leader. You're more popular than your party because of it, so stop caving on principals.

Ignatieff. If you want anyone to vote for you, show us why, instead of pointing and tattling on the Tories like a child trying to make mommy mad at your big brother. Offer us alternatives.

Layton. The fifties are over. Class warfare isn't going to work. How about trying to represent ordinary Canadians instead of presenting your party as the representative of the downtrodden gays, minorities and ethnics? None of which are particularly downtrodden, by the way.

That would be a start.

When a society were educated to be so selfish, people normally consider only the interest of themselves, those who care about others are consider as fool or propaganda, nothing will change that can make system better when no interest to the big interest groups (or even will make big interest groups take less) which control the votes via mainstream media. Just like when no one willing to spend something, you will have little chance to get good Christmas gift.

And yet we continue to spend hundreds of millions, largely on others. Not including charities. All this despite economic pressures.

I want people who go to Ottawa to be there for the COUNTRY and not to get a good pension for THEM. I wantthe personal attacks in Parliament to stop and I want the Tories to ANSWER the questions when asked. Lastly, I want a PM that brings the COUNTRY together instead of DIVIDING it.

Yep, easy to recognize something once you practice it enough eh son?

Trolls feeding trolls...

Just so you know, "troll" actually has a meaning; and by my estimation, there are two genuine trolls on this board.

Both right-wingers.

I don't think the beejer creature is a troll any more than Oleg is. But I can't for the life of me get why people read it and respond to it's nonsensical, barely coherent Chinese drivel.

I don't think Oleg is a troll either; and no, ultimately I wouldn't consider bjre a troll, though he's very irritating.

In my view, a true troll is knowingly such; mean-spirited, delighting always in making people angry for sport; and not only unwilling to listen to alternative points of view, but intentionally unwilling.

While many, maybe most, of us engage in such behaviour from time to time, the true troll does so almost continually, perhaps with an occasional interregnum on a less-politicized thread here and there.

No, I was thinking of our two smug little bully-wannabes: Saipan and Bush_Cheney.

Good post, Argus. I especially like the fact that you didn't let any leader off the hook.

In fact, if you want straightforward, concrete and realistic plans I'm sure all parties fall short. And in an era where communications have been revolutionized, an utter lack of imagination.

I plan to be more openly critical of them in 2011.
