eyeball Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 What is this world coming to? The government was quick to say that the reference to native groups would not appear in the final version of the manual and that it had merely been intended to illustrate examples of past insurgencies. Including Hamas in the manual implies it's also illustrating examples of present insurgencies too. The apology should also provide an example that insurgencies sometimes work and can be a respectable means of achieving a political end. That said we could have simply looked to examples in our own culture's past to realize that. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
The_Squid Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 The manual stated the following: “The rise of radical Native American organizations, such as the Mohawk Warrior Society, can be viewed as insurgencies with specific and limited aims,” it read. “Although they do not seek complete control of the federal government, they do seek particular political concessions in their relationship with national governments and control (either overt or covert) of political affairs at a local/reserve (‘First Nation') level, through the threat of, or use of, violence.” It wasn't politically expedient for any government document to state such a thing but, unfortunately, it's an accurate assessment. charter.rights Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 The manual stated the following: It wasn't politically expedient for any government document to state such a thing but, unfortunately, it's an accurate assessment. It is not only inaccurate but demeaning and hurtful towards Mohawk people. That is why the Prime Minister or Peter MacKay will issue the apology. It was a grave mistake to have included the Mohawk Warrior Society in the list of example terrorist groups since they are simply a group of Mohawk men and women in their communities that provide support and security to their neighbours. It might also have something to do with the Queen reminding Harper of our responsibility and our gratitude to Six Nations for their help throughout the history of North America colonization. Without their help it is likely we would either not be here, or we would have been Americans by now. Drugs are everywhere and I can assure you that bike gangs and other organized criminal are engaged in it in greater capacity then an few Mohawks. However, tobacco is legally manufactured and traded traditional product on any of those Mohawk territories and the government has no right to attempt to collect taxes on them. Mohawks can sell tobacco to anyone in Canada -it is a protected aboriginal right. Ever wonder why we don't here about convictions for tobacco transportation. Their aren't any Mohawks getting convicted because they get thrown out of court. There are non-natives getting charged and fined because that is illegal. Royal Proclamation 1763 "And we do. by the Advice of our Privy Council, declare and enjoin, that the Trade with the said Indians shall be free and open to all our Subjects whatever." It is legal for them to purchase and redistribute raw tobacco fro manufacture since Canadian laws do not apply to Mohawks and laws cannot abrogate their rights.. {quote]Thick? 10 hour Gun battles, organised crime....those are your brave warriors.... Nope. Those are not the Mohawk Warrior Society any more than the Hells Angels are the OPP because they both have corrupt people in their organizations. There is still no link because the MWS is not an organization. It is a group of fathers and husbands -similar to a militia - who come forward to protect their communities and support their families. Inebriated conjecture is not proof Morris. The official Mohawk Warrior Society as an organization collapsed about 30 years ago. In actual fact those who now refer to themselves as members of the Mohawk Warrior Society are nothing more than fathers and husbands willing to defend their people. They are often engaged within their communities in political issues and issues of justice and health, being forefront in opposition to Chiefs and Band Councils not looking out for their interests. They work an varied different jobs and have risked their employment to stand up for issues. They are not engaged in smuggling or booze.
