Oliver Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 So the Republicans gain a 50 or so majority over the Democrats, but the Democrats still maintain a very narrow majority in the senate. A similar situation happened in 1994 with President Clinton. Some say that this is a positive change for Obama since he now can blame any shortcomings in the Economy and Unemployment on the Republicans. How will this power struggle effect the politics of the next 2 years? -For up to date coverage of the U.S. Midterm election and an analysis visit: http://www.unitedoncampus.com/articles/us-midterm-election-results-02112010.html Quote
CANADIEN Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Clinton took advantage of an economic rebound. Unless it comes to Obama, and it starts within a year or so, he is toast. Quote
sharkman Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 The Republicans have done something that hasn't been done since the '30's. It's not 1994 all over again, it's even bigger than that. I agree that if Obama can't turn around the economy, he's toast. Someone should have sat him down when he first started and told him, "it's the economy, stupid". Quote

He probably knows that but knowing it and being able to do something about it are two different matters. This is not something that is going to turn around in a hurry even in an environment that is not so polarized. If Americans thought they could dig themselves out of a hole like this in two years they should legalize MJ because they are all smoking it. I wish them luck anyway. sharkman Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 If he really knew it, he would have spent the stimulus far differently. As of August they were reporting there was still over 300 billion left of the stimulus. That's ridiculous. For some dumb reason his brain trust figured they had the economy sorted out so they spent all of their energy on things like the Obama care bill. Obama is a crusader and his religion is socialism. He will not move to the middle. It's too bad. He had the nation eating out of his hand at first. Majorities in both houses. Goodwill the world over, they gave him a fracking Nobel prize. He has frittered all of it away, and now he stands with his hand out like a teenager asking for more cash from dad, and dad just told him to take a walk via the election. I wonder where things would be today if Hilary had won it all. Quote
August1991 Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 I'd call this a Democrat victory. And I think the US MSM soon will do that. Harry Reid is still Senate majority leader, and the Democrats still control the Senate. As mid-terms go, that's not bad. Tea party? they won Florida and Kentucky. They lost Delaware, Nevada and dismally NY. ---- IMV, this was a Republican loss. Obama has no credible opposition. The Tea Party is not Obama's opposition. Quote
sharkman Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 When was the last time a sitting president saw his majorities in both the Senate and the Congress become majorities for the opposition party? It's a pretty rare occurrence, but I'll bet Obama agrees with you and think he's made gains somehow. Quote

Alta4ever Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 The economy was excuse to ram through the obama agenda....no emergency...I mean opportunity will be wasted. unless obama can restaff his inner circle like clinton did in the nineties with something he is done....but he just well may be done anyway, ramming very unpopular legislation through, tisk tisk. We will see just how long the political memory of American really is. Quote "What about the legitimacy of the democratic process, yeah, what about it?"
