capricorn Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Here is the Liberal team's latest effort to get Canadians closer to Michael Ignatieff. He says if Canada is looking for a politician, look at the other guy. He laments that Harper and Layton are career politicians and who wants that. N.B. Make sure you have a box of tissues on hand as you may need to dab the tears from your eyes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XGYtqW2whE Will this most recent makeover finally do it for Ignatieff and the Liberals? RNG Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Hell, you need a box of tissue. So he's going to outlaw Alzheimers? Quote The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.
punked Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Trying to sell him as your real everyday Canadian is not going to work. I don't relate to him and Canadians don't he hasn't lived the life we live here. Maybe he would make better PM but he has to give Canadians a reason to vote for besides his wife thinks he is better then Harper. Quote
capricorn Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 Hell, you need a box of tissue. At times in the video, Ignatieff looks on the verge of tears and that alone choked me up...somewhat...then in some spots there's all that water behind him. By the way, in the ferry shots it looks like he's on one of Ottawa's local ferries on the Ottawa river that straddles Ontario and Quebec. So he's going to outlaw Alzheimers? Not likely since to do that he'd have to ban aging and at his age that wouldn't be so good for him. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
capricorn Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 Trying to sell him as your real everyday Canadian is not going to work. It's probably true that as he says, he lived paycheque to paycheque when he was younger, comparing himself to a small business person. But it's difficult for regular folks to relate to a man who nowadays owns a villa in France, resides in Stornaway and collects a hefty salary as opposition leader. I might buy it if you know he didn't attend the most expensive private school in Canada and his family wasn't made of Liberal money. Seriously I don't buy it. Not say he didn't work hard for what he had, but he certainly does not know what the average Canadian goes through. Neither does Harper or Layton but they don't give you the "I had to live pay cheque to pay cheque" line as if they had to decide if to eat or turn on the heat. It wont play. Quote
Sir Bandelot Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Forget the "family guy, I'm your buddy" approach. And it doesn't matter how long he's lived here. What Canadians really want to know is simple- is he pro or anti American. Quote
punked Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 I just want him to take a position with out deciding the next day it isn't what he stands for. Seriously a year ago he was ready to go to an election on EI, and then last week he and 14 other Liberals missed a private members vote to strengthen EI letting it die. What is it Mr. Ignatieff do you want stronger EI or not? I don't get it. Quote
capricorn Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 What Canadians really want to know is simple- is he pro or anti American. Good one Sir B. Well he's pro-Israel so of course he's pro-American. Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff reiterated his party's support for Israel after being challenged by an audience member at a public forum at Toronto's Beth Emeth Synagogue last night. http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/Ignatieff+says+Liberals+stand+with+Israel/3668839/story.html Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Moonlight Graham Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Good one Sir B. Well he's pro-Israel so of course he's pro-American. http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/Ignatieff+says+Liberals+stand+with+Israel/3668839/story.html He's still a snot, but it was a very good ad. They are trying to sell him & make him more likeable, and this does that a bit. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
capricorn Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 He's still a snot, but it was a very good ad. It beats the Ignatieff video with the forest background big time. This video is slicker in visuals and has a good flow to it. As for the content of the message, I think it borders on soppy although I admit I'm not a sentimentalist. They are trying to sell him & make him more likeable, and this does that a bit. It will probably work better with viewers who don't know anything about the man rather than those who know the details of his life and background. If that was the objective of the production's crafters, it might hit the mark. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Evening Star Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Well, he's right that he doesn't have a politician's instincts. (He doesn't seem to have that many ideas either, and this ad doesn't do much to change that perception.) Quote

Experts expect up to a million Canadians could be suffering from dementia in the next 10 - 20 years, this is in addition to the 1 in 5 Canadians who will suffer a mental illness in their life. I suspect if this was the year 2020 or so and coping with dementia were the issue Ignatieff was running on I bet a lot more people would probably be able to relate to him. Perhaps he's the right man but it's just the wrong time. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

G.P. Lehmann Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 If we are all supposed to be grounded with common beliefs and values, I wonder what Mr. Ignatieff would say in regards to Canada's divisive multiculturalism policy. Quote
