Topaz Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 The private-owned mercenary business was fined instead of jailed for selling weapons without the permission of the US government. They were also let off the charges of killing civilians in Iraq. It seems to me that it was ok for them to kill civilians but are now trying to put Khadr away for killing someone that was in a war. Double standard? The US government also will probably hire Blackwater for Iraq again to help the 50,000 soldiers that are staying there for awhile. http://english.aljazeera.net/news/americas/2010/08/20108215276443958.html Quote

Shady Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 They were also let off the charges of killing civilians in Iraq. Perhaps you meant to link to a different source, because the one you're citing doesn't mention civilian deaths. That wasn't what the fine was about. They were finded $42 million for trade violations. And the comparison to Kahdr is spot on. This guy is alleged to have killed an American Soldier, detained indefinitely with an obvious sham of a court trial. He still claims innocence. Even when the blackwater contractors confessed to the murders they are let go. A true shame. Not to mention US soldiers would get a court martial and jailed for this type of thing. It is a double standard, and hypocritical. You don't bring in hired guns to do the military's job. Plain and simple. Just for this kind of thing. Quote

Ever since Clinton and GW become president, the US has down hill. Obama, has a up hill battle and try as he may, the US is going the tubes and I don't think there's a Rep. who could do any better, GW really put the screws to the nation. When he could run his own business why would people vote for him?? Quote

When he could run his own business why would people vote for him?? Actually the US has been going down hill since Reagan was elected, with the technology boom in the 90's being an exception. Reagan was definately the defining character in the US decline though, and everyone after him has merely continued his policies (defecit spending, outsources, and so on). When he could run his own business why would people vote for him?? Because they are Americans and had the right to do so. Canadians don't. Would it be any more relevant for an American to proclaim that Canada is going the tubes [sic]? The difference is that Canada is far more economically dependent on the "big screwed up nation" to the south, so worry if you must. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
