Michael Hardner Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 Right - I was on the line between centrist and statist. The compass poll put me as liberal/libertarian or somesuch. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
dre Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Your PERSONAL issues Score is 100% Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 30% Theres something a bit wrong there... The answers I chose would reflect the way things have worked in almost every successful democracy in history (with the exception of ending drug prohibition). Yet it put me way on the left end of the scale. Im wondering how the center is determined. Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger
Borg Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Ah yes, there MUST be a way to determine why you do not score as you would LIKE. Study harder and you may even be able to rationalize to the point you can explain away anything It seems a very typical canucklehead response Borg Quote

Yet it put me way on the left end of the scale. The test is biased against libertarian view by asking people to agree with the most extreme libertarian positions. The results would have been reversed if they had reversed the questions (i.e. ask if you would like to double government spending instead of asking if you would like to cut it in half). bloodyminded Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 It would seem I'm sort of liberal/leftist. I was astonished. Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings

The questions are skewed, if by no more than the brevity of the test itself. Underwhelming, but I still consider it superior to the other test. Guest American Woman Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 My results: Your PERSONAL issues Score is 60% Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 20% According to your answers, the political group that agrees with you most is...Liberal. Liberals usually embrace freedom of choice in personal matters, but tend to support significant government control of the economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net" to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles. I don't find my results surprising, but for such a short quiz, I have to wonder how many people would feel as if their results are accurate. As for their description of liberals, the only thing I question is the "support significant government control of the economy." Quote
Michael Hardner Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 Still - it has to be better than the compass poll, which asks if you believe in astrology, presumably, to determine if you are Republican. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Pliny Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Personal = 100% Economic = 100% But you all knew that. I tried telling bloodyminded that he was left-wing. Canadian leftwingers normally do think they are centrists. American Woman is a left wing liberal and knows it. But has a confusion about economic control. Healthcare and social security, unemployment insurance all demand some government control over the economy in order for them to collect the money to pay for them. The more social programs like that, the more control is exerted over the economy. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
Yesterday Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 (edited) Personal 70% Economic 40% Centrist..mmm. Canadian leftwingers normally do think they are centrists. ??? I know full well that in most issues (though not all) I fall under the category of what is commonly described as "left wing." And complexities and labelling issues aside, I'm comfortable with that; I am openly "a man of the left." So it's not as if I ever disputed the assessment. The only disputation I recall between us on this issue was your notion that since I'm left wing, I can't recognize that we have a "left-wing media." I disagree with the premise, of course, under the institutional analyses of news media that I have cited multiple times; but more importantly here, this is entirely a separate matter from your odd claim that you "tried telling bloodyminded" what I already know and have never disputed.
