Moonlight Graham Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 (edited) Totally disagree with the OP. This is an isolated event. No need to go bonkers & bring in more firearms etc. If you want to protect your property from thugs, grab an aluminum baseball bat or a wrench, or just call the cops. If you want to go extreme, Canada does allow firearms in this country. ReeferMadness Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 What a goofy thread. Everyone in Canada should carry firearms. Police and property owners should have the power to be judge, jury and executioner. For the grand crime of, wait for it, vandalism. If we put all of this together, the result is, what? Running gun battles in the streets? Groups of protestors in armed standoffs with police? Then what? Do we call in the army too? The problems are complex. The "solutions" being proposed are simplistic. Unconstitutional. And dangerous. When it comes to simpletons who automatically think the only answer to violence is greater violence, a little thinking can be a dangerous thing. Quote Unlimited economic growth has the marvelous quality of stilling discontent while preserving privilege, a fact that has not gone unnoticed among liberal economists. - Noam Chomsky It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it. - Upton Sinclair
William Ashley Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) After what I'd seen in the news coming out of Toronto last week, I'm starting to wonder if perhaps we need to arm all Canadians. For starters, gradually introduce universal and compulsory martial arts classes in school for 9 years starting at the age of five. I don't care if it's a simplified form of tai chi chuan, as long as it's some form of martial art. Secondly, any law-abiding citizen who wants to own a firearm should be allowed to do so as long as he first passes a firearms test. If we did this, I can guarantee the Black Bloc would think twice before endangering the public like they did last week. I'm normally not for universal possession of firearms. But when Canadians' lack of respect for the law reaches a point where even the police can no longer maintain law and order, then citizens do need to arm themselves. That said, Harper was still an idiot for having chosen Toronto as the venue for the G8/G20. What was wrong with CFB Esquimalt? Education such as martial arts classes are constitutionally a provincial matter not federal. As for mandatory arm's wouldn't be the first time in history - not likely to happen, plus guns arn't defence any more, they are only useful for limited civil operations and arn't sufficient against actual military threats unless the proper ammunition is available. Crossbows and homemade explosives, mortars are more effective for anything but first strike. Edited July 7, 2010 by William Ashley Quote I was here.

with_distinction Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) This thread is disturbing. It is as if the majority of you are living in a third world despot. Martial arts? Yes, thus when Granville fills up with drunkards, instead of stupid fistfights, there will be a rash of manslaughters and other accidental deaths. Violence and arming the population is an ignorant idea for a country. How about free language lessons, or work upgrade education and opportunity would be more useful than martial arts or arming people with firearms. Perhaps using your mind would be more beneficial than using your fists like a (more so than normal) primitive animal. You will still have your odd cases of murderous rampages, but at least they will not be a black-belt karate master wielding numerous firearms ... Edited July 19, 2010 by with_distinction Quote
