How much more money are we gonna throw into this black hole? There are plenty of better uses for $400 million right here in Canada. Why not spread the money around a bit? It's not like Haiti is the freaking epicenter for poverty and human suffering in the world. On the other hand, Canada has had some role in the crap the Haitians have had to go through over the years, so maybe we owe them. Moonbox Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 On the other hand, Canada has had some role in the crap the Haitians have had to go through over the years, so maybe we owe them. Oooh. I'm interested. Care to elaborate on how Canada's responsible for Haiti being the armpit of this side of the world? eyeball Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Oooh. I'm interested. Care to elaborate on how Canada's responsible for Haiti being the armpit of this side of the world? capricorn Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 We stood by in silence while our allies basically gang-raped the place. Is that what is called a simile? Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers

eyeball Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Oh wow! When was that... In the past. and how were we supposed to stop it? Nothing, strictly speaking I suppose, but we could have at least said something. I think I would have tried to form a League of Extraordinary Nations with allies who are actually worthy of the name. Look at all the pressure Canada is feeling from the US and Britain to stay in Afghanistan - it's certainly not because of the great military weight we can bring to bear but the moral shine we bring to their immoral conflict is worth more than gold. We need to set the bar much higher. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

eyeball Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 How did the Dominican Republic get by unscathed? Maybe we said something! Haiti was born out of a slave rebellion the 1st of it's kind in the new world. This must have terrified the bejeezus out of the usual suspects who then focused all their fear and loathing on Haiti. eyeball Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 and for the last 100+ years we've been the cause of their poverty and suffering??? No, it would be more accurate to say it was a root cause of 100+ years of poverty and suffering. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
bush_cheney2004 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 We stood by in silence while our allies basically gang-raped the place. False....the last gang-rape was planned in Montreal. Canada was randy on the airport! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
eyeball Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 False....the last gang-rape was planned in Montreal. Canada was randy on the airport! True enough. We've fallen so far so fast sometimes it's hard to keep up. The evidence shows that at every turn, Canada has declined every opportunity to uphold democracy in Haiti, while taking the lead in overthrowing the country's democratically elected government and legitimating a power grab by Haiti's wealthy elite.
