Mr.Canada Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party will give $3 Million to the First NAtion University so that the current students may finish out their year there. This is a huge development and I expect charter.rights and Shwa to be very happy. Mr.Canada Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) And how is this money going to be monitored? Dunno, I just heard it on Power Play or the CBC Evan Solomon one. I flip back and forth from 5 - 6 pm. They didn't say anything but just that it was approved and it was a great about face, blah, blah, blah. Maybe they'll talk about it more on the late edition of the news at 11:00 pm. It's not on any of the news agencies yet either so I couldn't give a cite. I guess it could be better if he can use those money to open more primary schools and high schools so that there can be more first nation kids have the ability to go to university anywhere to compete with people from any ethnic group, and have the ability to create their own research institute on their own culture. msj Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 No wonder Ignatieff is talking about freezing corporate tax cuts. We're going to have to cancel tax cuts and hike taxes just to keep up with Harper's spending. Bonam Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 It's reasonable. Having a university close down part way through an academic year would just be ridiculous. Quote

But not necessarily because the students of the First Nations University will be able to complete their year, get their credits and move to a more reputable school. No, that is just fair and reasonable. I am happy because I know that this sort of fair and reasonable type of action gets under your skin and irritates you. Cost of finishing the year for students at the First Nations University: 3 million. Cost of Mr. Canada getting irritated: priceless. Quote

Cost of finishing the year for students at the First Nations University: 3 million. Cost of Mr. Canada getting irritated: priceless. Lol. To be honest it doesn't really bother me. It isn't the students fault that their administrators are less then stellar. What does bother me is that the yset up a First Nation Uni in the first place. It's wasteful and unnecessary as we have many fine higher learning institutions in this country to choose from. Plus for the 300 students enrolled there, $3M seems awfully high for half a year. Bottom line is that it was a fun experiment but it's a failed experiment. If First Nations want free schooling they should have to choose from the schools that currently exist. If FN want to open their own school then they need to do so using the Billions of dollars the bands get each year from tax payers. It's high time the government started overseeing their expenditures as a whole. Billions of dollars a year and they still don't have good housing for their people? Something funny is going on with the money in some of these bands. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
