capricorn Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 I have no idea who this Coulter women is . Neither do I. One thing I sometimes do when a person suddenly becomes a prominent topic of discussion, I look to find some of their quotes. It may not seem like much but sometimes their quotes provide some insight into that person. A couple of example: "Even Obama's staunchest supporters are starting to leave him. Last week Michelle Obama demanded to see a copy of his birth certificate." "I might be in favor of national healthcare if it required all Democrats to get their heads examined." http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/a/ann_coulter.html I laughed all the way through those quotes. I guess if you're a liberal they're not so funny. Anyway, I'll watch Coren too just to see what all the fuss is about. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Muddy Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Well, that's simply not the way things work here or in most countries. Free speech only exists within the confines of section 1 of the Charter. Free speech is not unlimited, nor was it even intended to be. So how many foreign speakers invited to Canada get letters warning of the restrictions on free speech from Vice President of a University? I have never heard of such a thing! Quote

Muddy Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 I don't know or care. Don`t you think you should? Or is it only right wing speakers who should get warnings about free speech. You know a lot of people fought for freedom of speech and were killed ,wounded or maimed for life. You owe them to preserve that value. Quote
Shady Posted March 23, 2010 Author Report Posted March 23, 2010 Wow! Wow! Wow! Tonight was amazing! Not only was Ann Coulter the keynote speaker, but speaking before her was the wonderful Ezra Levant! Which was totally unexpected! But I guess he was also scheduled to be there. Ann said that she's going to file a complaint with the human rights commission over the email she recieved from the University of Ottawa. Unless of course they can produce similar emails sent to previous speakers. This good get really interesting! I love it! Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Wow! Wow! Wow! Tonight was amazing! Coulter was on her game: “I don’t know how we’re going to have the punchback, but four years of Jimmy Carter brought us Ronald Reagan.” In a wide-ranging speech on political correctedness, Coulter said there’s a double standard for liberals and conservatives. But she sparked the biggest reaction — boos and applause — when she told a Muslim student to “take a camel” in response to a question. The student recalled Coulters comments after the 9/11 attacks. Coulter called on Muslim leaders overseas to be killed, their people converted and make them use flying carpets. “Since I don’t have a magic carpet what mode of transportation should I use,” the student asked Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Shady Posted March 23, 2010 Author Report Posted March 23, 2010 Forgot to mention that I also got my book signed, and got to chat with Ms. Coulter for a few minutes. She laughed at my joke! Quote

Shady Posted March 23, 2010 Author Report Posted March 23, 2010 Anyway, I'll watch Coren too just to see what all the fuss is about. Me too. She told me tonight that the interview was already taped. Which is too bad. I gave her a heads up and mentioned that Coren is kind of a Mike Huckabee conservative. She laughed and told me that it was good advice nonetheless. Quote

waldo Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 well... of course, it was Ms. Mallick's column on Palin, after all! I vividly recall the Fox News reporter labeling Ms. Mallick a 'pig'... touche! I note your pronouncement on the "freedom of speech being more so in the USA", doesn't seem to mind you attempting to leverage the official CBC reaction to complaints over Mallick's column. By the way, does your USA freedom... the USA freedom you hold out as a testament that allows the hateful, vitriolic spew from Coulter... does that USA freedom include your raised concerns over "restraint, respect and consideration"? Or are those simply attributes you would like to only hold (certain) Canadian writers to? The CBC apology was leveraged by Canadian readers, not I. Ms. Mallick is free to set the standards as low as possible....my "bitch" can easily best yours. Not at all...stop stepping on your crank waldo and take time to read the posts instead of nesting them. The one line reference to Mallick put to bed any nonsense about Canadian restraint, or a gag order for Coulter. Let the fur fly..... no - you followed your own touting of Yankee free speech with the Mallick reference, calling into question her, "restraint, respect and consideration". You presumed to leverage a CBC commentary on Mallick as a repudiation of her lack of, "restraint, respect and consideration". One is clearly interested in understanding if your interpretation of Yankee free speech, particularly in the context of a discussion on Coulter, also includes, for Coulter, the same level of, "restraint, respect and consideration", that you would appear to hold Ms. Mallick to. One can also understand your reluctance to answer a straight-forward question that highlights your inequitable application of same. in any case, the question of Coulter quotes has come forward... in regards her 3 Canadian city speaking tour, I understand this recent statement that Coulter offered to the London Free Press caused Shady premature excitement - oh my! By the time I leave Canada I expect them to repeal socialized medicine and kick out Quebec Quote

You presumed to leverage a CBC commentary on Mallick as a repudiation of her lack of, "restraint, respect and consideration". OK...thank you for explaining the obvious....I will slow it down to half speed just for you (again). Another member made reference to the caution issued to Ms. Coulter, which precipitated the easy rejoinder of Ms. Mallick's behavior to the contrary. Mallick went after Palin, the entire state of Alaska, "white trash", the sexual potency of Republicans, and porn stars with fine Canadian zeal. It's not really that complicated, except for you. Mallick is free to say whatever she pleases (at least in the United States), and accept the consequences (not arrest), just like Coulter. This point escapes you...again. in any case, the question of Coulter quotes has come forward... in regards her 3 Canadian city speaking tour, I understand this recent statement that Coulter offered to the London Free Press caused Shady premature excitement - oh my! Coulter quotes are old news...even when they are new. We know her schtick, and she loves to please an audience. Edited March 23, 2010 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
waldo Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 OK...thank you for explaining the obvious.... yet you still don't get it; rather, you still purposely refuse to answer it... again, does your brand of American free speech include the same, "restraint, respect and consideration", that you would presume to hold Ms. Mallick to... and... does your brand of American free speech hold Coulter to that same level of, "restraint, respect and consideration". As significant, do you personally hold Coulter to the same level of, "restraint, respect and consideration", that you hold Ms. Mallick to? Simple questions... why do you have such difficulty in answering? Quote
