Speak for yourself. Some men actually live by the vows they chose to take.

Very few have his opportunities.

"Women are the guardians of sex?"

What century are you living in?

This one. You don't like my phrasing? Find another. Fact is, men from the time they're 13, are always avidly in pursuit of sex while women, from about the same age, are the ones tasked with the job of saying "NO".

That has not changed much in a thousand years.

And the fact women are occasionally the pursuer is beside the point.

I'm not talking about to the extent that Tiger did; cheating is cheating, and most people have the opportunity to cheat in their lifetime, but some choose not to. Furthermore, it's not about "opportunities," it's about honoring one's vows. Tiger made the choice to get married and have children. He could have stayed single and slept with whomever he wanted whenever he wanted. That's a lifestyle choice that was totally within his power. He didn't need to seek out all this extra-marital activity; that was his choice.

Ok. Neanderthal mentality.

In your world, maybe. But thank God I know parents who teach their sons and daughters differently.

I have to wonder if you think pregnant teens should still be hidden away in nunneries, too. <_<

That has not changed much in a thousand years.

In your world, maybe. But to most of the world, that's not the way it is at all. Men have brains and the power of self control, not to mention the knowledge of right from wrong, along with their sexual urges; and if a grown man leaves it up to the women to say 'no,' quite frankly, he's thinking with his dick instead of his brain.

And if a young boy leaves it up to the girl, if he isn't taught differently, he could very well end up a daddy (more than once), with his life direction totally dictated by the fact that he left it up to the girl to say 'no,' rather than taking responsibility for his own life/actions.

And the fact women are occasionally the pursuer is beside the point.

Women are "occasionally" the pursuer? You must not get out much. ;) And if you don't think 13+ year old girls are often the pursuer, you're out of touch with reality.

Now back to the real world. For most men, obeying their vows (presuming they have made any and are not living common law) simply means they don't go out of their way to pursue a woman they find attractive. They might engage in a little flirting, but don't carry it further, even if the woman might want to. However, very, very few men are subjected to the kind of opportunities Tiger Woods has, with attractive women throwing themselves at them on a regular basis. Anywhere from 25% to 70% of men commit adultery at some point in their marriages, but rarely are they subjected to the temptation someone like Tiger Woods gets.

Ok. Neanderthal mentality.

I'm curious. Do you know any men? Any at all? Have you EVER known any men? I mean, other than the guy who delivers your mail? I'm assuming your daughter is the product of artificial insemination.

In your world, maybe.

Yes, my world. I.e., this one. I'm not sure what planet you're on.

In your world, maybe. But to most of the world, that's not the way it is at all.

I can't speak to whatever's going on on the strange world you inhabit, but here on Earth, this is the way it is throughout the world.

Sure they pursue - boyfriends. They don't pursue sex. Teenage girls don't look at a guy on the street and think "I want him in the sack right now" and go do something about it. If they did, teenage boys would be much happier than they apparently are because they'd finally get as much sex as they could hope for.

There's an axium I recall hearing from a comedian a while back. It was the explanation of why it's unfair to slag promiscuous women as a "slut" while we applaud the same behaviour in men. What he said was, to paraphrase, it doesn't take any effort whatever to be a slut if you're a woman. Any woman can be a slut. You don't have to be good looking, you don't have to be rich, you don't have to have style or be intelligent. All you have to be is .... present. But if you're a guy, well, to have a lot of sexual partners you need to be handsome, stylish, smooth-talking, with a nice car and an impressive job, you need to have a certain level of expertise - or be rich and famous, of course. So we applaud the guy's success, but not the girl's, because any girl can be a slut.

Because men are all sluts.

Yep. Sure do. "Men" being the operative word, as opposed to immature boys. And fyi, my mail carrier is a woman. ;)

It should be society in general granting an apology to Woods and not the other way around..sexual addiction? What a bunch of crap. In a more honest and ancient time he whould have beed glorified as a well hung genetically driven patriarch! So out he comes all doped up and in "therapy" and for what? For being a male with powerful breeding power. There is no such thing as sexual addiction- it is like saying the propogating is evil and the drive to create more life is a sin..what a bunch of gayified shit!

This man submitted to the beastly agenda of the de-balling corporate beast...He should apologize for being such a coward and not standing up for his own maleness and human diginity...when the average suburbanite bleach blonde bimbo will betray her own husband with in the drop of a hat for losing his job and be screwing Mr. more Lucrative next door - all this dispay of woods faking weeping did was ensure the fact that America is a nation of hypocrites and limp penised jerks.

Absolutely right ...

What kind of weird turn has our mass culture taken when we pour calumny on a guy who doesn't have a lot a flaws, and the ones he has are so pedestrian. OK, OK, pedestrian at a very high level. In Italy, Tiger would be admired, toasted even ... I think Italians often have a well-grounded common sense that I respect.

On the other hand, Goldman Sachs EXECUTIVES continue to take multi-$million bonuses for themselves, for their skills in using law and accounting to evade the purposes of the law.

Last weekend, I got into a conversation with a guy, while waiting for the bus ... it started with the danged bus service, moved on to Giambrone, and then to Tiger. He was indignant at the thought that a active heterosexual could do a little 'free-lancing' and make any claim to respectability thereafter. I asked him if he'd seen the pictures of the ladies involved. Well, no, he hadn't. I described an Angel of Sensuality, purely the creation of my imagination, a 21st century version of Betty Boop ... as best I could in the cold, waiting for a bus. "When such a creatures fawns over q gentleman ... so-oo willing, so-oo eager ... can a gentleman really say "No'?

He sat forward and turned to look me in the face. He had such a look of dumbfounded outrage on his face that I couldn't help but laugh. We both started to laugh, god bless him. He told me later he was 74, and that he never knows how he's supposed to react to things these days.

You guys really don't get it.

Society isn't asking for anything, anything at all, from Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods is the one doing the asking here. "Please, let me continue to sell you a Buick SUV. Please, buy this Swiss watch that I endorse. Please, buy all the other stuff that I endorse. Please see me as a hero again, please buy stuff that has my face on the ads."

Ummm...yes it is, as Woods is/was a marketing dream that they want back. "Society" includes Accenture, American Express, Nike, Electronic Arts, and Tag Heuer. It's not just Tiger's wish.

BTW, Buick ended its endorsement contract with Woods in 2008, long before his fall from grace.

I'm guessing the PGA wants him back, too. From what I've read, there are more viewers watching when Tiger is in a tournament.

Tiger's not the only one making money off of Tiger.

Explain ? He did well enough at The Masters, I think.

Had he won, the media bombardment would be doubly intense. Now he's just one less post-apologetic celebrity for the public to fawn over.

But I know, he'll be back next time, as will his marketing campaign.

I'm happy Mickelson won. What a game he played.

I agree with kimmy. It is up to him whether he wants to apologize or not to. No one is forcing him to do so. Some corporations that may want to use him for marketing purposes may want to convince him to do so, but they cannot force him.

As for AW's stance... yes many men hold to their vows. Holding to one's vows is a matter of honor and an honorable man would do so. However, Argus' point is also entirely valid. Men naturally have a powerful drive to have sex with attractive females, certainly more than just one throughout his lifetime if possible. A man unbound by vows will generally tend to go and do so, if he has the opportunity. This is an obvious result of evolution. A man who spreads his seed among many females has a higher chance to produce more offspring, each of which has an independent chance for survival, thus increasing the overall chance for the man's genes to continue to future generations.

Yea, but I bet Tiger gets a lot more tail. ;)

I noticed Tiger wore sunglasses between his plays at the Masters. You know what they say. Too many hand jobs can make you go blind. Which prompts me to ask. Has he been cut off?

Once Woods is back on top of his game, no one will give a crap about how he lives his personal life and no one will give a crap about all the mistresses he had. And I don't care either. Woods owns golf, that is all.

I caught about 30 seconds of Scooby Doo this morning..there was a mini golf champion called Cougar Forest...I thought...huh?

Daphne: Golf is such a graceful sport.

Velma: Give me hockey any day. Skating with the fear of being clobbered into the ice. Now that's graceful!
