bloodyminded Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) How did this thread turn to gay marriage? Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Something Obama said illustrates perfectly the mindset of the American Liberal. In an unguarded moment his, "clinging to their guns and religion..." comment told you all you needed to know about his position on 'flyover' country. Then by your logic, something Palin said ilustrates perfectly "the mindset of the American" conservative: namely, that "real" Americans live in small towns and rural areas....as opposed to the majority of Americans. Michael Hardner Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Those real Americans receive disproportionate representation, for example in the Senate where each state gets 2 senators - whether it's New York or Montana. Yes, exactly. Real Americans live there. She doesn't view them as being less depending on their gun or bible count as Obama does. Notice also she doesn't say anything bad about major urban areas, where the majority of Americans live. You had to infer that. Edited February 9, 2010 by sharkman Quote
Guest American Woman Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Yes, exactly. Real Americans live there. She doesn't view them as being less depending on their gun or bible count as Obama does. Notice also she doesn't say anything bad about major urban areas, where the majority of Americans live. You had to infer that. "Infer?" "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation." The "best part of America" is in the small towns, and that's the "real America." The "pro-America" part of the U.S., evidently. But yeah. One has to "infer" that she's not saying anything negative about major urban areas. Quote
eyeball Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Well they certainly have more than me. To me, the average voter resmembles a cow chewing its cud, eyes dull, tail swinging idly, unthinking, uncaring, responding only to the prod. Perhaps you're just seeing what you'd like to see. Did I hear someone mention you were a civil servant? Do you wield a prod in the course of your job by any chance? Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

Obama quite clearly put down rural America with his clinging to guns and religion remarks. Palin simply did not. Saying a certain region is the best of America does not equate. I'm sure we could drag up quotes of both all day saying ______(fill in the blank) is the best of the country depending on which crowd they are talking to. Quote

bloodyminded Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) And that is the problem with American liberals. A condescending attitude, we just don't 'get it', do we? Oh, no. You are "inferring" American Woman's point, and incorrectly. Obama quite clearly put down rural America with his clinging to guns and religion remarks. Palin simply did not. Saying a certain region is the best of America does not equate. Please. If rural areas and small towns are "the best of America," as you put it, then by definition those regions that are not rural and small town are inferior. That is, the majority of the country. The majority of the population. This kind of faux-populism is itself a form of elitism, of snobbery. And it's extremely condescending...meaning you shouldn't like it, I would think.
