Riverwind Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 The biggest problem with US politics right now is the Democratic party has been taken over by left wing radicals that do not represent the US population anymore than the extreme right wing elements in the Republican party. Unfortunately, these radicals have mistook what was largely an anti-Bush protest vote as a license to implement whatever they want. Fortunately, for Americans the democrats still have moderates in the party which have enough influence to put the breaks on the legislative agenda. The Republicans will not be able to regain power unless the are able to recover the votes that are going to the blue dogs and that will require that they reign in their own extremists. Topaz Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 You have to look at this way, the Republican radio show host are having a easy time of it because of the changes Obama is trying to do and there the door is open for them to spin, spin and more spin. They blame Obama for all the problems and you never hear them talk about BUSH. The hosts have people up in arms over this healthcare insurance and from what I've heard said that is Americans who want to keep the insurer they have they can, but to hear the radio hosts, they are putting the fear in the people who listen to them. Not that simple.....$500 billion would be cut from Medicaid to help pay for Obama's ideas.....this has angered many many seniors and disabled recipients. Unfortunately, these radicals have mistook what was largely an anti-Bush protest vote as a license to implement whatever they want. Uhm, no. The biggest problem in American politics is the control the religious right established over the Republican Party about twenty years ago. American politics has been little other than a contest between competing moral viewpoints ever since. Every election campaign seems to hinge on elements such as abortion, gun control, gay rights, sex education, birth control and "family values" whatever the hell that is. I'm not saying such things are unimportant but in the scope and breadth of national government over a nation the size of the United States these are TRIVIAL issues. Yea...it's far more important to argue about issues such as EI, who's speaking French, deadbeat immigrants, and whatever the Americans are doing. The Americans don't have anybody else to argue about. Canadian politics sometimes revolves around trivial things too, but I'd argue that immigration policy is hardly trivial, nor is EI, which is a life or death influence to so many, not to mention it's importance to business. Shady Posted August 16, 2009 Author Report Posted August 16, 2009 telling the truth So in your world, stating that Pat Buchanan wants all Jews hanged is "the truth." Interesting. Every election campaign seems to hinge on elements such as abortion, gun control, gay rights, sex education, birth control and "family values" whatever the hell that is. That certainly wasn't the case of the most recent election. It wasn't even the case in the election of 2004. I disagree that they're trivial issues. Quote

I've heard Pat Buchanan claim all Jews are going to Hell --- I never heard him mention a noose but I do know members of Opus Dei believe jews should be hanged --- just ask Mel Gibson any clown who wants to think racism isn't part and parcel of the fascist right's agenda is an especially sad pathetic, Emmet Kelly-like clown Quote “Most middle-class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal” - Benjamin Spock MD

BubberMiley Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 He didn't lie. An analysis of Soviet Propaganda is very illuminating on the this subject. Leftists use the same tactics as Brezhnev era commissars and operatives: slander and muck. Godwin's law is a favorite in the patter of liberals... so are the use of labels: such as "reactionary" "white supremacist" "anti-semite" "racist" "xenophobe" "homophobe" "right wing extremist" "hate filled bigot" "KKK" "nazi pig" etc ad infinitam nauseam.
