M.Dancer Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 I am reminded of the story that back in the 60s in china they were inudated with a plague of terns. The terns were everywhere, eating and pooping but mainly eating. So much so that there were wide spread fears that the crops would be lost and there was a possibility of famine. Therefore the central authority issued a proclamation that all the peasants, workers and soldier were to kill as many terns as they could and issued quotas to each cadre. They were also told that they should throw stones at nesting terns so that by keeping them in flight they would die of exhaustion. The Red Guard marched though the streets carrying patriotic signs exhorting everyone to... ... leave no tern unstoned. Thank you thank you. BubberMiley Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 We are supposed to revere them but Americans look at them like rats. Who the hell ever told you to revere geese? Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
Sulaco Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 Yes it is but a good cook knows how to take care of it. (and the goose fat has uses too) Mmmmm... yes it does. Quote Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Those who learn from history are doomed to a lifetime of reruns.
Guest American Woman Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 New York is going to capture and kill 2000 Canada Geese because of the plane that came down in the Hudson River. Now I heard the first thing out of Sean Hannity mouth was KILL THEM!! when this happen. Would they do the same if it were Eagles??? Thoughts? http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/090611/...us_bird_strikes I think they would do the same if it were eagles in the same numbers as geese. Eagles don't pose the problems geese do. I'm really not sure what you're getting at, though; are you taking it personally because it's Canadian Geese? Personally, I don't agree with killing the geese, although I suppose it's along the same line as allowing deer hunting season so the overpopulation of deer doesn't lead to even more road/highway accidents/deaths. And that is a problem. I just don't see where capturing and killing 2000 geese is going to solve anything. It's not as if more geese won't migrate there from everywhere else. I would think 2000 geese is like a needle in a haystack. Quote
lily Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 They weren't Canadian geese. They were American. They were locals. Quote I'll rise, but I won't shine.
Guest TrueMetis Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 They need to kill more of the bastards Canadian Geese are evil. Then they can be cooked and given to homless shelters. Quote
lily Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Canada Geese, people. Quote I'll rise, but I won't shine.
Guest American Woman Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Canada Geese, people. If they're from Canada, then they're Canadian, eh? Quote
lily Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 If they're from Canada, then they're Canadian, eh? Then you agree that the birds that brought the plane down were American geese? Quote I'll rise, but I won't shine.
Guest American Woman Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 (edited) Then you agree that the birds that brought the plane down were American geese? Nope. Sorry. Being in the U.S. doesn't make a Canadian an American. And that goes for geese, too. Edited July 20, 2009 by American Woman Quote
lily Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Your logic doesn't compute. Those geese weren't Canadian. They weren't migrating. They were a local flock. They're American Canada Geese. Quote I'll rise, but I won't shine.
