Svend Robinson

Recommended Posts

Apparently he took a piece of jewellery, and turned himself in to the police.

I remember a similiar type situation occuring to a gay PQ politician in Quebec named Claude Charron, who stole a sports jacket from Eatons, and was caught by detectives.

He is staying on as MP, and a member of caucus, for now, but is taking a medical leave.

Svend for now anyways is not running in the next election.

CBC Story

BURNABY, B.C. - NDP MP Svend Robinson stunned supporters Thursday by saying he needs to take medical leave after admitting he took a ring without paying for it.

"Something just snapped in this moment of total, utter irrationality," he said while crying and struggling to read a statement during a nationally televised news conference in his Vancouver-area riding of Burnaby-Douglas.

He seemed to be connecting it to his hiking accident. The mind reels with possibilities... Painkiller addiction possibly ? He turned himself in, though.

I read the article & I can't see where he tried to connect it to the hiking accident of a few years ago....how did you leap to that conclusion?

Does anyone know the name of the Auction House he took it from?

When Svend says "I'm a human and I have failed" is he implying that we're all a bunch of thieves?

Svend pulls a Wynona because of the stress of being openly gay, wow, I love that. The poor victim of hate turns to cleptomania because those nasty redneck christians have refused to accept him.

Sure glad he didn't snap while in Palestine trying to free those victims of hate because he would have been depawed on the spot.

I do think this sinches the NDP LIB coalition to form the next government. Imagine a jewel thief and money launderers working together. Makes me miss the Trudeau era.

Anyway, I would also like to thank Svend for taking one for oppressed neurotics everywhere. Atta boy.

It was in another story I read. Sorry. Here's the LEAP.:
Struggling to choke back tears at a Vancouver news conference, Robinson told reporters that he has been suffering from "severe stress and emotional pain" since a near-fatal hiking accident in late 1997.

CTV

I used to like Svend.

But between this excuse & his bawling like a baby during the news conference I think I've revised my opinion.

I wonder what else he's palmed since he fell off the bike?

How many NDPers will now come forward with stories about how once when they were in close proximity to Svend they felt something touching their back side, and how at the time they attributed it to Svend's showing his affection, and how now they have suspicions that that was when their wallets disappeared?

You know, maybe Svend isn't gay at all, maybe he just made it all up to support his pick-pocketing sprees.

Claude Charron, also gay, stole a coat from Montreal's downtown Eaton's and then was tackled in the snow by a store detective when he tried to run away. He claimed in his autobiography that it was his way of saying that he "wanted to quit politics". (Incidentally, the lawyer who defended him was Serge Menard, ex-PQ minister and now candidate for the BQ. English Canadians will soon get to know Menard very well.)

I heard about Robinson on CBC Radio and the journalist gave him a eulogy, with a Christ-like chance for rebirth. Imagine Stockwell Day (!) had done this. How would the CBC journalist report it? (BTW, who is holier, Day or Robinson?)

Am I wrong to believe that we should not indulge surgeons and pilots (when their services are required) and never indulge politicians nor judges (for moral confusion or learning experiences)?

In this day and age, people who can't get their act together shouldn't be in politics. There are ample other professions, just as fun, which allow for private foolishness. Rock star, and acting come to mind.

Robinson? Ryder? WTF?

The guy is messed up in the head. Therefore, any action taken during his tenure in politics is suspect. Which ones were made when he was under the illusion of 'if I'm wrong, the world will understand' and which were 'this is the right thing to do?'

Crying at a press conference, cut me some slack! He goes to the middle east and makes decisions on people's lives for crying out loud. All with the rightiousness of one who knows reality and it's consequences. He's another idiot that can't even handle day to day life without falling apart. Leader?

Maplesyrup,

He might be able to survive, but should he?

He admitted to stealing a ring worth more than $10000.00.

The fact he came forward might have more to do with the fact he knew he was being investigated. Yes, he is troubled and I wish him some help, but do you want him in government sorting through these troubles.

Yes, I want Campbell in office. He is competent and sane.

He did commit a crime, and thankfully only his pride was hurt. The crime was not defended by calling into question his ability to make decisions when he was sober. He committed to not drink and I am sure those who appose him have kept an eye on this.

Svend clearly might not be able to make rational decisions, and as a voice for Canada might get himself killed if he goes back to the Middle East.

MapleSyrup, you're right. Why didn't Campbell resign? (Sort out his life and then come back when he's ready?)

If he doesn't or BC voters accept that he doesn't, then BC is badly represented in Canada. And Westerners have no reason to complain.

Should I, as an Easterner, tolerate hearing the nonsense that French-Canadians steal you Westerners blind?

It's your own fault!

Please, choose better leaders!

Kudos to PM Martin for his high road comments about Svend today.

Didn't catch it. Got a link?

Does it have anything to say about how we are all troubled and all? If it does, it's BS because nobody I know goes around ripping private business owners off except for Government and the Banks. We all seem to do pretty upfront business around here. IOWs, he is scum. You want him back?

PM Martin's comments were from his press conference which I watched and was carried live on TV Thursday afternoon. I believe he was in New Brunswick at the time.

The first question he received was about Svend. The second one was about the Khadr family.

Svend is one of the most respected politicians in Canada, there isn't anyone in his riding who doesn't know him, and he has a following right across Canada, including Quebec.

Robinson has stepped aside for now.

Why kick someone when they are down?

That doesn't impress anyone, and just makes people who do that, people like Don Martin, look very small.

Krusty:

IOWs, he is scum.

This is rather harsh, don't you think ?

Even public figures deserve a certain modicum of sympathy. Campbell and Robinson are people too after all.

From Luke 6:37

6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Words to live by...

The guy is a thief, that is what he is. Not a misunderstood whatever but a thief. What do you do with thieves? He wants to return to work, let him, see how far he gets next election.

Even public figures deserve a certain modicum of sympathy.

OK, I feel bad that he is a thief. All better now?

6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Oooo! Got me there. He is not a thief then, he is a person who stole.

Svend Robinson is one of the most strident, sanctimonious left wingers this country has ever seen. He never passed up an opportunity to lecture this country or the world about his left wing views, from trying to crash checkpoints in israel, to heckling Reagan in the House of Commons like a ten year old schoolboy. Heck, another socialist, Nelson Riis, even said Robinson would "drive a knife into your neck with no remorse"

Spare us the crocodile tears and get lost, Svend.
