myata Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Indeed stability and prosperity were good for this country, and as a result created a large middle class which is now the main electorate base for both parties of the duopoly. Because the parties are now vying for pretty much the same electorate, they are mimicking each other on one hand, and avoiding serious decisions on the other. As a result parties are becoming harger and harder to distinguish between. This eventually would lead to voter apathy, and the unavoidable reform of the system, so that the entire political spectrum, not only middle majority can have a meaningful representation. Quote If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant
madmax Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 The NDP writes bills....sure, but as long as they keep Layton as leader, they have no intention of governing. It's not about quantity. Possibly the biggest joke going is that the NDP had the EI bill before Parliment, and Ignatieff being Absent, missed the boat. His party supported the NDP bill on Changes to the EI system. SHortly thereafter, Ignatieff says he is going to champion EI. Rather then support the bill through parliment, he cuts a deal with Harper to have lattes and steak BBQs for the Summer. As long as the Liberals are intent on standing up for something, you can be certain they will be the first to stand down. As long as there is something popular in the polls, the Liberals will adopt it, and when they get to the house ignore it. Quite frankly, its not about quantity, its about quality and integrity. Both missing from the Liberals of 2006 to 2009. If the Liberals had any conviction towards helping those people on EI that they claimed they were intent on aiding, they would have kept parliment running until the bill was passed 3rd reading, and help accelerate the process. Instead, they joined the Conservatives in putting it off. Both parties patting themselves on the back for a job well done. Quote

No excuses for the delay except for the fact that it would probably have led to an election and based on the stands of most of the parties, we'd be having an election all the time. How many elections do you want? Quote

punked Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 So...an election every week. If that is what it takes. I some how think it isn't what it takes. No one said creating a better future would be easy, but our country deserves it. Quote

punked Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 And this is why the NDP can't get ahead. Because we want our government to work for the people and wont be scared everytime someone threatens an election? Yes our future is worth it sorry. Quote

punked Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Keep it up. Don't know if it will help you win more seats. Don't care if my party stands for something, it is the Liberals that bend and sway with the Polls. It is the Liberals that are scared of an election so much they sell the Canadian public out to the Conservatives. Their voters want one thing and the Liberals do another in hopes of forming a government by whatever means necessary. No thank you. Quote

Come on.... There was no election or election threat. There was a bill on the floor to reform EI. The bill could have amendments attached as often happens. Regardless, the bill had the support of the majority of the house. It was not a bill that could bring down the government. Therefore NO ELECTION and certainly NO JUNE or JULY election. The only election threat came from a twit who decided he would challenge the government, and back down within the 20 minute question period with the media after his opening salvo on EI. I believe the response was.. GO AHEAD, MAKE MY DAY. The fact that the Liberals have been threatening elections since Dion came to power and supporting the Conservatives lock step is no surprise. The surprise was that Ignatieff used the same Dion Tactic and had his bluff called. All this had NOTHING to do with EI reform. Especially considering the Liberals have never had a bill on EI reform in the house since they changed the rules 13 years ago. Election Bluffs are for Liberals. Quote

There simply wasn't any connection between the EI proposal and the election threat. If there really was then he could have called the question, but instead opted out for a little piece of saber rattling. I think it made him look bad actually. Quote
jdobbin Posted July 8, 2009 Author Report Posted July 8, 2009 Election Bluffs are for Liberals. All the other parties have been ready to blame the Liberals for any election while taking no responsibility for their no compromise positions. Not surprisingly, many voters think all parties are acting stupidly. Quote

The level of childishness is sometimes overwhelming. Given the public opinion polls on all the parties, the public certainly doesn't think highly of any of the game playing. If they thought the NDP was golden, they'd be government now. Quote

It is becuase everytime someone points out to you, your party crumbles like a dry cookie, you some how blame it on other parties for no caving to the Cons like yours does. That is just a silly arguement "It is the Bloc and NDP's fault my paper does not do what they say they will" Quote

It is going to be quite satisfying to see the NDP lose seats come election time. Quote

punked Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Well, I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. Really why not? I think we will be just fine as a party, we hold together during good times and bad, sticking to what we believe in. Quote

Smallc Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 But you won't form government. Not as long as you stick to such a rigid ideology. The federal NDP could learn from their Manitoba counterparts. Canadians are not ideologues (for the most part). Quote
